Singer Wax will release her first feature album in Japan on May 24. Earlier on April 12, she released her first single album containing “Akai Ito” (Red Thread), the Japanese version of her hit song “Changing My Make-up” which topped the music chart of cable broadcaster USEN for the second week of May.

The new album will feature a total of 12 songs in Japanese including “Listening to Olivia” and “Akai Ito.” To coincide with the release of the album, she plans to hold a live concert with a big band at a square in Tokyo.

After holding an interview with Wax, the Japanese daily Sankei Sports reported Saturday that she is a Korean diva with a heartbreaking voice who can sing any genre of songs.

Renowned Japanese lyricist Takashi Matsumoto, who wrote the lyrics for “Akai Ito,” said, “I do not know how much Wax understands the lyrics, but she catches not only the emotions I intended to express but also the meanings between the lines even though Japanese is not her native tongue. That is why her songs touch people’s hearts. I feel impressed about how she can do that.”

Wax herself expressed her will to do her best. “I want to cultivate exchange with many Japanese musicians and share my music,” she said. “I am concerned about how Japanese people will receive my music, but I will try to shake off any fears and just make a sincere effort.”

Her agency said that Wax had prepared to work in Japan since last summer by studying Japanese and moving to Japan early this year to immerse herself in the culture.
