KBS: “SM Lawsuit Reason for Cancellation of JYJ’s Appearance”

Local media Sports Korea quoted an official from KBS today to explain the reason behind the cancellation of JYJ’s appearance on a special program by the broadcaster.

“It will be difficult for the three JYJ members to appear on KBS before seettling their lawsuit with SM Entertainment,” an unnamed source from KBS told Sports Korea.

JYJ was originally planning to sing two songs on the special KBS program, “Jeju Seven Wonders KBS Special Live,” on July 20th. However, it was revealed on July 17th that JYJ’s agency unexpectedly received a cancellation message from KBS just four days prior to the event.

“The only message we got was ‘JYJ’s appearance could cancel the entire program,’” JYJ’s agency, C-JeS Entertainment, told the press after being removed from the show. The statement made people in the industry question whether “backdoor pressure” was indeed applied to KBS, since it announced that JYJ would be replaced by f(x) and SNSD, two SME-based artists.

However, the source added, “It may be possible to continue with JYJ’s individual activities, as seen in Yoochun’s casting in KBS drama ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal.’

But in fact KBS had blocked JYJ’s individual activities in the past, the report said. Yoochun was supposed to appear on Kim Seung Woo’s show on KBS earlier this year as a “secret guest” for actor Kim Kap Soo, but it got cancelled a day before the recording. The official explained, “That day I don’t think Yoochun was cast by himself, but JYJ as a group.” However, when asked about the incident, an official from Kim Seung Woo’s show said, “Yoochun was invited for his personal relationship with Kim Kap Soo, so there was no reason to have JYJ as a group.”

JYJ’s fans are currently organizing an online petition to demand an official statement from KBS. They are requesting a clear explanation and an official apology to JYJ for abruptly cancelling their appearance on the show.
