Rebroadcast Ratings No. 1- the Word Spreads About “Man of Honor”

The new KBS drama “Man of Honor” has been a little under radar in comparison to its competition, “Tree With Deep Roots.” Praised for its interesting storyline, acting, and production, “Tree With Deep Roots” took top spot in ratings for the Wed-Thurs drama line, with “Man of Honor” in second place. Perhaps it is because people are in the mood for a historical drama after the end of “The Princess Man,” but “Tree With Deep Roots” recorded near 20% ratings (for episodes 3 and 4), while “Man of Honor” only stayed in the single digits (for episode 1 at 8.2% and episode 2 at 9.4%) this past week.

Interestingly, “Man of Honor” took first place in rebroadcast ratings, recording 5.7% and 7.5% for episodes 1 and 2, respectively. It seems that the word spread about “Man of Honor” and audiences tuned in to catch what they couldn’t on the original broadcast dates.

This might not be a surprise since “Man of Honor” is produced by the team behind the national hit “Baker King Kim Tak Gu.” Recording near 50% ratings, “Baker King Kim Tak Gu” drew in audiences with it dramatic and tension filled storyline and captivating characters. The same is being said about “Man of Honor,” which has been receiving praise for its energetic story. Although there is criticism that is too similar to “Baker King Kim Tak Gu” as a underdog story with birth secrets and the rich boy-poor boy dynamic, “Man of Honor” is said to be taking the same framework and making it its own.

“Man of Honor” is a baseball drama that centers around the underdog Kim Young Gwang, played by Chun Jung Myung. Park Min Young plays Yoon Jae In, the lead heroine struggling to become a full-fledged nurse, and is the love interest of Young Gwang. Lee Jang Woo rounds out the love triangle as the baseball star Seo In Woo.

“Man of Honor” is promising to be a heartwarming story of losses and wins that will show the importance of love and perseverance. It’s definitely a different appeal from “Tree With Deep Roots.”
