SHINee‘s Taemin and SNSD‘s Sunny have lent their voices to star in the children’s film, “Koala Kid: Birth of a Hero.”
The press conference for “Koala Kid” was held on January 3 at the Lotte Cinemas in Seoul. “Koala Kid” is garnering attention due to the high-profile celebrity dubbing team including Taemin, Sunny and actor Yoon Da Hoon.
SHINee’s Taemin took on the leading role of Johnny and he revealed his thoughts on his first experience with dubbing. He expressed that he was very nervous throughout the process. He said, “Like Johnny’s character, I am pretty introverted. When I was analyzing Johnny’s personality, it seemed like my own. When I was recording, I was determined to fix that part of myself so I tried to be as bright and energetic as I could.”
He continued, “Because I didn’t have any experience with dubbing, I talked and received a lot of advice from my fellow SHINee members. The director also helped me so that I would do a good job. If there is another chance in the future, I want to do this again. I learned a lot through this experience.”
SNSD’s Sunny also expressed her thoughts on her first dubbing experience. She said that she asked for a lot of help and advice from Seohyun and Taeyeon since both of them have previous experience with dubbing.
Sunny stated, “Due to the girls’ help, I was able to comfortably act with my voice. My character Miranda is very strong and there were many emotions in my heart as I tried to act out this role.”
Director Lee Kyung Ho stated, “I thought that I needed to cast idol stars for this movie. I think Sunny is perfect for the leading female role. She even resembles a koala! I think Sunny resembles a koala the most out of the entire SNSD group. Also, Miranda shouldn’t sound too snobby or luxurious and I think Sunny has a good, unpretentious image, which was right on the spot for this role. Dubbing actors and actresses should have voices that are easy on the ears and I think Sunny’s voice was perfect.”
The movie is a safari adventure animation about a lonely circus koala named Johnny, who tries to protect the environment with his other animal friends by standing up against a gang of alligators and as a result, is named a true hero. It will hit theaters on January 12.
