Jang Geun Suk Criticized for Lying about his Height

Recently, Jang Geun Suk guested on an episode of Japanese TV show “Kuwazugirai-Ou.” During the show, he was paired with Noritake Kinashi, and fans could not help but notice their heights.

On Jang Geun Suk’s official profile, his height is written down as 182 cm (5’11”). However, viewers noticed that Jang Geun Suk was approximately the same height as Noritake Kinashi, who’s listed as 177 cm (5’9″), when they stood side-by-side. As a result, several threads titled “Jang Geun Suk’s Height Is Suspicious” have been created online, and Japanese netizens have been criticizing the star for lying about his height. Some of the comments included, “First you lie about plastic surgery, and now it’s your height,” “Leave our country liar Geun Suk,” “I’m disappointed in you,” and more.

This isn’t the first time Jang Geun Suk has been under the spotlight for his height. In a past interview regarding his profile, Jang Geun Suk stated, “I’m aware that there’s a controversy over my height issues. But I think it’s because of my small face. People who met in person are surprised at how tall I really am.”

A lot of stars – including and not limited to Rain, Won Bin, Kim Hyun Joong, Jung Yong Hwa, and more – have been swept up in the height controversy as well. However, it’s not just Korean celebrities who lie about their height. Hollywood stars, as well as non-celebs, can’t help but round up their measurements by a tad in order to appear slightly taller. It’s no secret that many Korean celebrities have stage names and lie about their height, weight, and age. Some celebrities go as far as deceiving the public about their academic backgrounds. Check out a past Soompi editorial regarding why celebs lie.
