Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2012 – March Week 2

Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2012 – March Week 2

We were expecting a tight battle between miss A and Big Bang for the top spot this week but it hasn’t been materialized yet, as miss A’s “Touch” cruised to an easy victory, moving up six spots to No. 1. “Touch” was the mutizen song in SBS Inkigayo and M!Countdown last week, and among the top songs on almost every chart, scoring the week high 949 points. As of last week, Big Bang has not yet made their TV comeback.  “Blue” was not listed on M!Countdown and not yet a Take 7 song on Inkigayo. As a result, it has to settle for No. 5 this week as one of our two new entries in the top 5. Next week when “Blue” scores high on every sources it will be a different scenario.

K.Will moves up another spot to No. 2 with “I Need You, gaining 45 points from last week. K.Will has gradually established himself as one of the top male soloists in Korea in the last two years“I Need You” won the KBS Music Bank K-Chart last week. It will be again in the mix next week for the top spot on our chart.

New female single Ailee continues to impress everyone.  Despite very strong competitions from established singers, her debut song “Heaven” is up another spot to No. 3. Ailee’s debut chart success is already better than the last two major female soloists G.na and IU at their debut stage.

There is one other new song in the top 10 this week and it actually ranks higher than Big Bang’s “Blue”.  Superstar K2 runner up John Park comes in at No. 4 with “Falling”, the title song of his first mini-album “Knock”. While many Superstar K2 alums have already released their albums, John Park waits until now. It looks like he is doing very well on the chart. “Falling” is a acoustic ballad composed by British composer, Andy Platts and penned by the singer himself. John Park hopes to sing songs outside of the mainstream. This week, John Park also duets with superstar actress Song Hye Gyo on a new single “Switch. We may see that song on the chart very soon.

Album: Lee Eun Mi Vol. 6 (2005) Track 3
Watch: MV (Lee Eun Mi version) MV (Kim Bum Soo version)
Comment: We continue our coverage on veteran songwriter Yoon Il Sang’s upcoming 21st anniversary album. The latest pre-released single is from Kim Bum Soo’s “I Have A Lover”.  The original version of this song is sung by barefoot diva Lee Eun Mi and was the title song of her fifth album in 2005.

Even though Lee Eun Mi debuted way back in 1992, she has not released too many albums over the years and she doesn’t often appear on mainstream music shows.  Still, her trademark deep, husky voice and emotional vocal is easily recognized by fans.  “I Have A Lover” was not considered a major hit on music charts but it became very popular among fans in noraebang and even many fellow entertainers and singers performed their own version of this song on TV Shows and in concerts.  Watch the MVs on both version to see if you like Lee Eun Mi’s original female version or Kim Bum Soo’s new male version.
