YG Entertainment’s chairman Yang Hyun Suk gave the latest update on PSY’s on-going talks with Justin Bieber’s representative, Scooter Braun.
On August 22, Yang Hyun Suk, better known as YG, spoke with local media Dispatch, and said, “PSY has met with Scooter Braun and their talks have gone well so far. I can’t really reveal the details at this point, but we expect to see a positive outcome soon.”
He continued, “Braun discovered Bieber through YouTube. He contacted PSY too after seeing his music video on YouTube. I think he was quite shocked by the style he’s never before seen in anywhere else in the world.”
YG added Braun’s musical preference is also in line with PSY and YG’s style. “YG always tries new stuff. Braun likewise is very interested in new music and new styles,” he said. “PSY and Bieber have a lot in common in that regards.”
YG Entertainment has been one of the most active and successful labels on YouTube, and YG took note of that as well. “YGE quickly got accustomed to the online market. YouTube is the place where young people go to find new information. PSY’s music video in that sense perfectly matched their needs,” YG said.
He said Korean musicians have failed many times in the past while trying to make it in the States. But the online video culture has opened up a new opportunity, and he stressed that PSY’s video proved offers will comes from Western markets if the content is good.
“Once PSY returns to Korea, we’ll discuss things more in detail. We will have a chance to reveal our plans with Bieber at once very soon. Everything is working out very well,” he said as he wrapped up the interview.
PSY is expected to depart L.A. on August 23 and arrive in Korea the next day. But the official PSY-Bieber collaboration announcement will not be made until later.
