Kara’s Kang Ji Young, BEAST’s Yoon Doo Joon, and MBLAQ’s Lee Joon Cast in Sequel Drama “IRIS 2″

Kara’s Kang Ji Young, BEAST’s Yoon Doo Joon, and MBLAQ’s Lee Joon were cast as agents in a team protecting VIPs under South Korea’s National Security Service in sequel drama “IRIS 2” which is tentatively scheduled to air in February 2013.

Kang Ji Young will be playing the role of Agent Song Chae Ran who is honest about her emotions and ambitious.

Yoon Doo Joon will be playing the role of Agent Yoon Si Hyuk who lives and dies by style.

Lee Joon will be playing the role of Agent Kim Ji Heon who has a superior talent in breaking and counteracting secret codes.

It has been reported that Jang Hyuk is considering a male lead role, Lee Da Hae is in talks for a femme fatale role, and Daniel Henney  is also considering a role in “IRIS 2.”

In 2009, KBS aired drama “IRIS” was a hit with A-list stars Lee Byeong Hun, Kim Tae Hee, Kim Yeong Cheol, Jung Joon Ho, Kim So Yeon, Kim Seong Woo, and Big Bang‘s T.O.P., and a thrilling plot centered around South Korea’s secret National Security Service team’s work in preempting foreign threats, assassination attempts, another secret organization called IRIS, and the politics of reunification.

Tae Won Entertainment, the production company behind the drama franchise, hoped that Lee Byeong Hun and Kim Tae Hee would reprise their roles, as the sequel drama would explain the death of Lee Byeong Hun’s character Hyeon Jun, the arrest of Kim Yeong Cheol’s character Baek San who headed the infiltration of South Korea’s National Security Service, and further explain IRIS.  But, Taewon Entertainment later confirmed that the two would not be involved in “IRIS 2” and the sequel drama would shift its storylines and focus more on explaining IRIS.

In 2010, SBS aired spinoff “ATHENA: Goddess of War” with Jung Woo Sung, Cha Seung Won, Soo Ae, and Lee Ji Ah was aired but unlike its predecessor was unable to garner the same public acclaim.
