Kim Jae Joong, from trio JYJ, became the runner up for the “29th Best Jeanist Award” in Japan, making it the 3rd straight year he has been ranked on the esteemed poll. Japan Jeans Association sponsored the annual event.
The poll was conducted via mobile internet and every Japanese citizen with an available device was able to participate. It’s noteworthy that in 2010, he placed 3rd and moved up to place 2nd the following year showing his continued popularity. He received 3052 votes, about 500 votes ahead of 3rd place Yamashita Tomohisa (NEWS). Aiba Masaki (Arashi) placed first with an overwhelming 11942 votes.
An official from CJeS Entertainment commented, “To be able to place 2nd in a respectable poll in Japan without actively promoting for the last 3 years shows his great popularity as a Hallyu star.”
Netizens who heard of the news commented, “Kim Jae Joong is the man most suitable wearing jeans,” “It’s surprising to hear that Jae Joong has placed this high without activity in Japan,” “JYJ’s Jae Joong’s popularity is daebak in Japan,” “Congrats for placing in the ‘Best Jeanist Awards.’”
In other news, he went to Busan on October 4 to participate in the 17th Busan International Film Festival for headlining the movie “Jackal’s Coming.”
