It has been revealed that PSY will be starring in an ad for what calls as the biggest event of year in America – the Super Bowl.
On January 9, USA Today reported, “Psy… will star in a Super Bowl commercial for Wonderful Pistachios.”
The Super Bowl is an annual championship game of the National Football League and is easily called one of the most anticipated and biggest events of the year. The Super Bowl takes place every February.
According to the report, PSY had filmed the commercial in North Hollywood on January 8. It will be the first Super Bowl commercial for the “Wonderful Pistachios” brand and will be PSY’s first commercial to air in America.
PSY is expected to sport his pistachio-green tux while eating pistachios in the commercial.
PSY is quoted in the USA Today report by saying, “The Super Bowl is way too big for me,” and “I never dreamed of being a singer in America, so I of course never dreamed of being in a Super Bowl ad.”
On average, the Super Bowl is watched by over 100 million viewers and is one of the most watched sporting events in the world. Viewership ratings soar past 70% each year and due to the high ratings, the commercial airtime during the event is the most expensive of the year. Last year, the average price per thirty-second ad was $3.5 million, which was the highest rate for Super Bowl advertising in history.
In other news, PSY had recently performed “Gangnam Style” on December 31 with Yoo Jae Suk, Noh Hong Chul and Haha for “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rocking Eve” in Times Square.
PSY is expected to release a new album in February or March.
