Gaeko of Dynamic Duo was the first one to release a song under Amoeba Culture’s NOWorkend Project. The NOWorkend Project will allow the members of Amoeba Culture (Dynamic Duo, Supreme Team, Zion.T, Primary, etc.) to show off their own style.
Some of you may notice that Gaeko’s first verse in the song is the same from “Cypher 2012” (a.k.a. the best part of SBS’s Gayo Daejun).
In “Rhythm Is Life,” Gaeko shows why he is the best mainstream rapper in Korea. His amazing flow keeps the listeners glued to the song. While his voice is a bit nasally and not the deep voice that fangirls love from idol rappers, Gaeko more than makes up for that “fault.” His flow matches the beat of the song very well and the sick rhymes roll off of Gaeko’s tongue smoothly, showcasing how well rapping in Korean can sound when it is done right.
The lyrics stand out in “Rhythm Is Life,” as it counters the trend that Dynamic Duo has been doing with its title tracks. This is a song where Gaeko boasts about his accomplishments and dishes out insults to the keyboard warriors in Korea and Curbin, his former group member in CB Mass. Gaeko references a lot of celebrities in “Rhythm Is Life,” from Future Liger (Yoo Jae Suk, Tiger JK, Yoon Mirae), Garion, and Jun Jin (Shinhwa).
In the end, this is another good song that Korean hiphop fans can enjoy, after releases from Baechigi, MFBTY, and Leessang. What is likely to be one of the best songs of 2013 is a good place for new fans to check out Gaeko and Dynamic Duo.
