Yunho Gives Thoughts on Dropping Out of “Yawang”

Yunho Gives Thoughts on Dropping Out of “Yawang”

Semi-spoiler alert! DBSK’s Yunho dropped out of the SBS drama “Yawang” after the March 12 episode. Yunho gave his thoughts on dropping out of the drama. Yunho stated, “Through this acting project I learned the importance of ‘trust.’ I tried my best so that this project would be a stepping stone in my acting career that still needs a lot of work.”

Yunho explained what he meant by “trust.” It is the trust between the fellow actors/actresses and the filming staff. It also includes the trust between the characters within the drama.

Throughout the drama Yunho’s most famous lines have been, “Mother” and “Sister.” A representative of “Yawang” stated, “Yunho kept emphasizing the fact that he is a rookie actor and continued to try his best. He continued to ask his senior actors/actresses for advice. Also, as the youngest one at the filming site he continued to help out without qualms. He showed his humane side.”

“Yawang” (Also known as “Queen of Ambition”) is a drama which tells the story of an ambitious woman Joo Da Hae (portrayed by Soo Ae). Although Joo Da Hae is born into poverty, she will not let anything stand in her way from her goal of becoming the First Lady. At first, Ha Ryu (portrayed by Kwon Sang Woo) is in love with her. However, after he gets betrayed he takes his revenge.

The 'dropping out' phrasing had me so confused - thanks @cat1177 for explaining :3 I haven't actually watched the drama, but I read the articles about how hard he was working - though that's hardly a surprise, haha. I caught some gif sets on my tumblr dash though and it looks like he's improved from HTTG. I think what some people need to realize though is that casing for dramas in Korea isn't the same as casting for TV shows in the west. It's normal for idols to be placed into roles for various reasons so the idea that idols shouldn't be cast and learn 'on the job' but learn before even being cast, while an understandable opinion, is probably more often than not, 'impossible.' It's very likely not uncommon for an idol to be put in a role by their company with little of their own say so they do the best wth what they can. Yoochun was, from the very start, a natural with great potential, I think, but when SKKS came around, he had a bit more time to study acting before stepping into the role and took advantage of that. Changmin, too, had a more open schedule after being cast for Paradise Ranch and took the initiative to take acting lessons and he's definitely made a massive improvement from his Banjun Drama days IMO. But Yunho was cast during a time that was very busy so he did what he could with the time that he had and I think that should be recognized

and apparently the commenters here have not been following news of his drama or Yunho, so no he did not drop out, his character was supposed to have died early in the manhwa but the production released a statement weeks ago that they were not necessarily basing everything in the manhwa and that it's possible there could be some changes, one of which obviously was Yunho's/Dohoon's extended run in the drama. it's generally believed that they extended him as long as his schedule would allow, which was up until Ep. 18. Tohoshinki will hold a massive 5-dome tour in Japan in a month's time so Yunho needs to focus on rehearsals now.rn

aznlad33 wrote: »

If anything, I think producers probably requested a drop out or he probably chose to do so himself considering the numerous complaints and comments made about his acting.

he was not asked to drop out LMAO /facepalmrn The CEO of the production company said that he even writes press releases for Yunho himself.rn rn omg why did i come here to read the comments?? *headdesk*rn rn

I really do wonder how many of you people with "poor Yunho can't act" comments actually watched the entire drama and not just bits of Yunho's scenes from a couple of episodes? He did many intense drama scenes during the latter part of his run, very well executed that surprised even a (Western) movie fan like me. The CEO of Yawang's production company posted in DC Yunho a day after his final episode to praise Yunho and even mentioned that his crying scenes moved him to tears during filming. The only way he can hone and polish his skills is to do more acting which is what he was able to do in Yawang (just as the only way for him to improve on his singing and dancing is to keep singing and dancing). Maybe his being an actor is not for everyone and a lot of DBSK fans have a hard time getting over his idol image but he seemed to have gained some new k-drama fans in Korea thanks to his drama exposure. Rest assured we will all be seeing more of him in drama in the future.

I had watched this drama up to 17th episode and watched the end of YunHo's character .. for a rookie ... Yunho deserves applause .. he improved a lot especially during episode 16 where he showed the transition of his character feeling/expression from joy to sad then angry and hurt .. thats not easy .. I believed this was Yunho's decision to drop out. In the earlier episodes his character as he himself point out .. was just "mother" and "sister". We can see his character starting to develop only in episode 15 and so sad he decided to end his character in the 17th episode .. in all I would conclude if more "trust" would be given to YunHo .. I'm sure he can deliver it well .. Everyone has their first time .. No one is born as an actor ... and usually the first time is not something we can really be proud of. Given time and opportunity I'm sure those who really want to and strive to .. will succeed.

I feel bad for Yunho and I won't judge him too harshly but a lot of these casting directors need to leave the acting up to real actors. Some idol actors are good, but too many of them are terrible. It is not the viewers' responsibility to watch you go through an awkward improvement phase. You should be good at acting if you are going to act. There's no way to get around that. Nobody wants to watch a drama and cringe while they do it. The acting is supposed to be so good that we don't even notice that you're acting. It should be natural. That's what separates a good actor from a bad one. I wish Yunho the best. He's a wonderful performer and he leaves his heart on the stage, but everyone is not cut out for everything. Most idols need more training in acting to be cast in anything. If they can't act and they play a major role in the drama, they just downgrade the quality of the show.

If anything, I think producers probably requested a drop out or he probably chose to do so himself considering the numerous complaints and comments made about his acting. It's heartbreaking. He really wants to do well, but the pressure and the time constraints just don't help him show his best at all. I agree, he was great during the banjun days. But I guess with time, that more natural acting side of him faded. He's a great and amazing guy. Even till the end he remains humble and thankful. He's the type of guy who'll take the hit and deal with it on his own only to take it really hard and blame himself. I hope it doesn't put him down too much. JYJ is talented yes. But I've given up on them when they left. As for HoMin it's similar, feeling of giving up too. I feel that the 5 later down the road will just remain what idol groups had hoped to become and now hope to never end like or break a part like. To be so high up together only to break a part and turn into strangers.

[+201, -31] Yunho, what're you doing there ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 4. [+31, -9] This situation reminds me of the song K. Will - "Don't Be Like This" 5. [+28, -13] This drama failed the moment Yunho was cast Number 2 and 4 totally cracked me up. Oh netizens..

i think it's because people's expectation for him that limiting his improvement. he take it too seriously and definitely too tired to learn his acting when you see DBSK killing schedule. IMO he's better in his old banjun drama, along with his members, i even thought he's the best actor among db5k (yeup, even better than chun). he's so laid back back then, but since he took HTTG, he's totally flop where yoochun improved greatly. heh, so weird... anyway, i hope nothing serious happen "back there". he's pretty much got some issues with "trust" already *cough*TVXQ breakup*cough* (I'm a hardcore OT5 though currently siding more to JYJ) i hope for the best for him, and really really hope he will find the best character for him.. yunho oppaa!!! fighting!!

Is this official? I'm wondering if there's a problem in translation here. Yunho's particular storyline with Su Ae is over within the drama, but his character still continues to have a 'birth secret' with his mother/sister. I can't believe the PD would leave this plot point dangling and I also can't believe that Yunho would arbitrarily drop out of the first successful drama he's been in - it wouldn't be a professional move and must violate conditions of his contract. Actors can't come and go in dramas just because they might want to. This 'announcement' needs some serious fact checking.

He dropped out of his own accord, or he was dropped by the producers? o_o

I've watched some of the episodes and unfortunately I don't think his acting improve much...,maybe it will be good if he just focus in his singing/music. Not all top idol should turn into actor.

i watched couple of episodes and his acting was surprisingly good. why did they have to make him die in the drama though? i honestly thought he was gonna live and call his sister mom at the end =(

That has got to be a first for a second male lead to drop a drama for other reasons than a serious injury. "Trust", hey? *wonders*

I haven't been up to date with this drama; however, from the few episodes ive actually watched, Yunho has improved a lot in his acting skills. I'm so proud of my baby and I hope he continues to improve.

Ah, BoA won't be happy! I watched him in Poseidon, his acting does suck. I wonder if it's improved by now. I'll watch this drama after my other 3, I'm currently watching.

): Poor Yunho. He is such a hard worker and a talented performer, but unfortunately he is not so gifted in acting. I haven't watched this particular drama (not so keen after HTTG) but based on comments about his improvements and knowing how he as a person just refuses to not improve, I had hoped for the best. I hope he doesn't take it badly, he tends to take his setbacks really hard on himself. Yunho fighting!
