KBS Rules PSY’s “Gentleman” Unfit for Broadcast

The music video for PSY’s “Gentleman,” which recently broke Youtube records for reaching the 100 million view mark in just four days, has been ruled by the television station KBS unfit for broadcast. The video was blacklisted due to scenes that portray the “destruction of public structures.” Specifically, it was the scene where PSY kicks the “No Parking” sign on the street in the beginning of the video.

In response, YG Entertainment stated they would not be asking for a repeal of this verdict. “We expected this kind of ruling so we don’t expect that a repeal will have any significance.” The company will just follow KBS’ decision.

In conclusion, viewers will be unable to watch PSY’s music video appear anywhere on KBS.

You can watch this “offensive” scene at 0:05 mark.

What do you think about KBS’ ruling, Soompiers?

AP's article if you guys want to see it: http://apne.ws/14y1vKNrnrn Honestly, it's not a 'loss' to KBS any more than it's a loss to PSY: everyone who was going to watch Gentleman has already done so on Youtube. At the same time, KBS has to at least keep up an image of keeping content impressionable-kid-friendly. I see it as a cordial business policy sort of deal, not something for anyone to get upset over.

chickylee wrote: »

KBS did the right thing. Besides, Gangnam Style wasn't the most respectful thing ever, either. Like, if I were doing yoga class outdoors and some middle aged man jumped in our midst and started bringing it with the ssanti and singing about sexy ladies, I'd be pretty weirded out.

One of the things that I like about Korean Dramas and music videos is that it is easy to find good stories and good music without having excessive sexual content. I think its a mistake for Korean artists to try to become more sexual just to appeal to America or other countries. We have gone way overboard and loss all sense of what is right and appropriate. The reasons for banning Psy video to me were a bit surprising, but I think they chose them because they're more PC and easier to define than talking about the sexual content.

kbs is doing the right thing. you know the controversy over "nice guy" (the drama) original name where kbs forced the production team to change the title of the drama even after broadcast because the title contains (intended) typo? it was unnecessarily stubborn of kbs to insist on such trivial matters, but as the national broadcast station, they have to be that stubborn.rn and you're saying that their excuse for blaming the mv was lame? would you prefer them directly pointing out that the music video that koreans are so proud of, that korea is promoting to the world, is actually full of sexual contents that is NOT the korean culture and not at all appropriate for korea's young generation to watch?

WTG KBS. Ban a video that's breaking records worldwide just because of a beef with YGE.

this is freaking ridiculous! they're such a butthurt. PSY doesn't need you anyways :))

what? THAT scene is the problem? it's not a surprise for me if this MV cannot be broadcasted on TV in Korea, but i though the banning would be because of the sexual contents in the video, like, you know, when PSY was feeling a girl's belly. because that scene really bothers me. so it seems like feeling a girl's body is more polite than kicking a 'no parking' sign..

this is just redundant. The biggest video out right now and they ban it? thats a joke
