Crayon Pop Signs with Sony Music Entertainment

Korea’s latest dance craze girl group, Crayon Pop, has signed with the big name agency, Sony Music Entertainment.

On August 13, Sony Music stated, “Last month, a few Sony Music officials visited Korea to view the K-Pop scene. They met Crayon Pop and were impressed by the group’s uniqueness and thought that they could do well in the global market.”

Crayon Pop’s agency Chrome Entertainment commented, “We think signing Crayon Pop with Sony Music is a huge step toward their growth and we are excited to see what results will come forth in the future.”

Sony Music is home to many worldwide artists such as Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Avril Lavigne, Usher and more. Korean artists such as Yiruma, Tim, Park Jong Ho, Kim Bo Kyung and Shayne are also part of the company.

Crayon Pop skyrocketed into fame with their latest single “Bar Bar Bar” for its fun and cute concept and dance.

best luck for them. i really do want them to get more recognition. honestly, although i really like their choreography in bar bar bar (i think it's really cute), i also feel bad to see them dancing so weirdly like that. i mean, we all know that girls their age usually want to be seen as pretty and cute girls, so i bet it takes a lot of courage for them to perform bar bar bar. and all those underestimating comments on their channel, calling them 'nugu' group, oh, i really do wish they will make it big. so i'm really happy to hear this news.

u know...personally I think it's just U.S. companies are starting 2 realize how Asian singing groups are big money makers in Asia. and without really researching who the big groups are, they just pick one of the rookies who they think are basically the same as any other group. And if they invest in them a little, the company still get a big cut of what that group makes ($$$) in Asia. And it's convenient b/c they can keep their singers (like Usher) in the U.S.( besides doing tours) and they don't have 2 ship them off to Asia b/c the Asian singers are making money for them.

convenience and $$ all around I say. but of course, this is just my guess.

Ironic that all these girl groups trying to be overly sexy hoping for attention through pole dancing or whatever or through sketchy connections like Chris Brown have lost out to the cute girls who wear sweatpants and helmets. But yeah, I hope they are not ruined by going international and having all these music business CEOs getting involved with their image. I worry about that and hope they don't change too much.

@toomuchsmilingThere is too much money involved to just pick a rookie group that they think is the "same as any group". Besides, Crayon Pop is unlike any of the other bands out there right now which is why they are getting attention. If they didn't think they had international potential, they wouldn't even bother. So, I think Sony definitely did their homework before they came over to observe them in person and sign them.
