Crayon Pop’s Agency Responds to Accusations of Costume Concept Plagiarism

Crayon Pop‘s agency, Chrome Entertainment, finally spoke up about the swirling rumors that the female group had copied their stage costume concepts from another Japanese female idol group called Momoiro Clover Z

The agency released this statement on August 21, “There have been many rumors about the originality of Crayon Pop’s ‘Bar Bar Bar‘ sound as well as other aspects related to it. We will be addressing these and other illegitimate claims.”

With regards to the cries of plagiarism regarding Crayon Pop’s use of Momoiro Clover Z’s concept, they said, “Crayon Pop wore tracksuits while promoting their track, ‘Dancing Queen.’ The outfits were inspired by Crayon Pop’s role model, DJ DOC. The reason why we wanted to experiment with this concept was because it was so different from what other girl groups were wearing at that time. Also, it was convenient to have tracksuits for their choreography, which incorporates several high kicks.”

They also added, “We have continued to use this ‘tracksuit uniform’ concept up to now with ‘Bar Bar Bar.’ The helmet came into play when the choreography required jumping and so to protect the head, one of the members suggested the use of a helmet for protection as well as a prop. The helmet concept has been utilized by many other artists before, like 45rpm and Daft Punk.”
