On September 24, Loen Entertainment confirmed to various media sources that the originator of IU‘s wedding and pregnancy rumors has been caught and is currently being questioned by the police. Loen Entertainment submitted a bill of indictment this past May to the police, and the suspect has been found after four months of investigation.
The suspect in question is a male in his 30s who stated to the police, “I wrote the rumor only out of curiosity, but it soon spread like fire.” He spread the rumors by sending a text message through a SMS. While the suspect is pleading for leniency, Loen Entertainment remains adamant that he receives the appropriate punishment.
It also became known that police is continuing investigations into other netizens who continuously left malicious messages against IU. Music producer Jo Young Chul of Loen Entertainment announced on his personal Twitter account, “We will continue to strongly respond to netizens who leave malicious messages for defamation.”
Previously, Tablo of Epik High, actresses Go So Young and Kim Tae Hee, and other celebrities have also responded strongly against netizens who spread malicious and false rumors about them. It seems we are seeing a growing trend of celebrities taking a stand, although it remains to be see whether these actions deter other similar attacks.
