What may have seemed like an unlikely collaboration turned in to a hilarious moment as Super Junior‘s Kim Heechul shared funny exchanges with veteran actor Lee Soon Jae during the script reading for tvN‘s upcoming drama, “Flower Grandpa Investigation Unit.”
Although Lee Soon Jae is actually much older than the Super Junior member, the plot of the new tvN drama made it so that Heechul had to speak to the veteran actor as if he was younger than the singer.
On April 2, the cast of “Flower Grandpa Investigation Unit” had their first script reading, and the room could not stop laughing at the silly moments. As Lee Soon Jae, Byun Hee Bong, and Jang Gwang act as young detectives who mysteriously turn in to 70-something-year-old grandpas overnight, the three must seek the help of their wiser detective colleague. Who is this elite detective? It is none other than Kim Heechul. Thus, when the Super Junior member had to use informal words such as, “Hey,” “You!” and “Hey kid,” to address Lee Soon Jae during the script reading, people could not help but laugh at the odd image. Although apologetic for addressing someone nearly 30 years his senior in such informal ways, Heechul was well-liked by the veteran actors for his positive and kind manners.
Moreover, the three veteran actors stirred up some laughter when they had to utilize the slang words that were currently being used by the Korean youth. Although the three actors showed some awkwardness using slang such as “Heol~” and “Daebak!” the veteran actors soon warmed up to the slang expressions, causing more laughter.
In regards to the script reading atmosphere, Goo Ki Won PD expressed, “Each actor became immersed in their characters once they started reading the script. There was much laughter in the ironic scenes where the veteran actors had to act as if they were not used to being grandpas.”
TvN’s “Flower Grandpa Investigation Unit” will broadcast its first episode on May 2 at 9:50 PM (KST). Kim Hee Chul will act as the elite detective Park Jung Woo who goes on an adventure with characters Lee Joon Hyuk (played by Lee Soon Jae), Han Won Bin (played by Byun Hee Bong), and Jun Kang Suk (Jang Kwang) in the three grandpas’ quest to find their old, or should we say ‘younger,’ bodies.
