[Update] Kris Hired Hangeng’s Former Law Firm to File Contract Termination from SM

[Update] Kris Hired Hangeng’s Former Law Firm to File Contract Termination from SM

On May 15, Sina, a Chinese media source, reported that EXO-M‘s Kris has asked his agency, SM Entertainment, to terminate his contract.

The report from Sina said, “Kris has filed a lawsuit to end his contract. There have been rumors since a month ago that Kris was going to end his contract. It is surprising and sad that a member will leave the group after two successful first years. His circumstances are similar to former Super Junior member Hangeng.”

In response, a representative from SM Entertainment told OSEN news, “We are currently looking into this situation and we are quite embarrassed. We are putting every effort into making sure EXO‘s activities are going well.

OSEN has also reported that Kris hired a law firm to represent him in this contract termination. A representative from that firm told OSEN, “It is true that we received a lawsuit for a contract termination today.”

UPDATE:

The Seoul Central District Court has confirmed that Kris filed a contract termination with SM Entertainment on May 15, but the court has yet to process the request. The law firm representing Kris is the same as the one that represented Hangeng back in 2009 when he filed a lawsuit against SM Entertainment. The law firm did not disclose any other details about the case, stating that they wanted to keep this case as private as possible.

It is also being reported that Kris did not fly back to Korea with the rest of his EXO-M members on May 12, after their comeback showcase on May 11. Fans who were waiting for him at the airport were told that Kris stayed in China to spend time with his family. While back then this did not raise any suspicion, now people are wondering if he had been preparing for the lawsuit.

I'd like to think this is just a fail publicity stunt.

Though I hold nothing against Kris. The boy has the right to do as he pleases. I just hope his career doesn't end here. Because I will miss him and I am hurt by this. It's really said and I just cannot and will not believe that there isn't something being hid from us. I want the truth and only until then will I be at ease. I feel so sorry for him for all the anti fans giving him grief. Inconsiderate. Leave him be and let him make his mistakes.

I know very little in regards to this issue. But what I do know is that awhile back there was a rumor that Kris wanted to leave/did leave to Canada without permission. Therefore, there was a history of elopement and wanting out. That shows early dissatisfaction with the idol life. Perhaps he has a greater conflict with ye general idol lifestyle than specifically with SM. In the end, we have no absolute idea what is brewing behind the scenes. Blame SM. Blame Kris. Blame the idol industry. Blame the fans. Blame the anti-fans. Or blame no one as we most like it will never hear the truth. Just remember there is never truth to learned from one side. It is all bias.

I heard Kris just wanted to change some things on the contract but SM CEO being a douchole just wants to control him like a robot not a human being.

Not surprising. SM has been trying to enter Chinese entertainment sector for a long time. After TVXQ and Super Junior, they still are facing with problems which indicates that they really don't try to change anything.  They are precise, you either do it or well...
I don't
get it though. I bet that SM won't lose anything. In fact, they will probably make more profit as we have seen in the Hangeng case. It's just ironic. You are accused of abuse of human rights and at the end you are the one who benefited from the situation.
It is really brave of him to fi
ght for his rights. May he have patience. And let's hope that SM learns *something* from this case this time.

There is always this problem with having Chinese members as once they got famous, there is just too much temptation to switch to a solo career in China. The Chinese entertainment industry  doesn't have the resources to groom trainees the way the Korean entertainment companies do and it is easier to make generous offers to attract someone who has gone thru years of training with proven star quality.

Kris left bc SM is too much for him. I always saw Kris as the lacking one in the team, no pun intended but he just didnt fit well. Lack in performances, singing even dancing, and his fans would just excuse him saying his tired. Im sorry exo fans but i saw this coming. However, it is his right as human to be free and i agree that if he wants to leave, he can. Now he'll have to face a big monetary indulgance and his reputation.. im inly hoping he'll find happiness after all this mess.

SME is a greedy agency. They always wanted to hv the biggest chunks of profits. Shinwa, JYJ, Hangeng cases also the same problems. Lee Soo Man hv a big appetite $$$$$$. Always remember how they treated JYJ and never missed a single opportunity to crushed them to pieces. This time will just sit back and watch how they going to handle Kris lawsuit.

He has made his choice. If he wants to leave the group then let him be and I respect his decision. What's done is done.

I heard that now the EXO members are treating him like dirt and pretty much want nothing to do with him.  The last time I check, it was pretty much the same ordeal with Super Junior was talking bad about Hangeng.  So, whatever happens, it happens.

I am reading comments by other members and I am so confused. Apparently he didn't tell anyone about what he was planning to do and that crushed some of them.....Tao in particular.

Ming Banger

They don't have the resources? Incorrect..they're the 3rd largest entertainment industry in the world. Your comment is somewhat bigoted.

Ming Banger
Ming Banger

Of course you saw it coming....cause you're psychic right? By blending the 2 groups SM took away his leadership and input. The Chinese members are basically afterthoughts with SM. If Luhan wasn't the most popular member out of the entire group, I doubt the Chinese members would be recognised at all.

perhaps because he was already presured by SME. So JYJ and Shinhwa were lacking too? I just don't see were

Ming Banger

Did you hear from them personally cause it looks like SM has hijacked some of the members Weibo and Instagram accounts?

jkytam
jkytam

@Ming Banger They might be the 3rd largest entertainment industry like you said but there isn't any Chinese company having the kind of set up grooming trainees for years before debut.

jkytam
jkytam

@shadows_owner @jkytam I am talking about the ones who got offers to go solo in China. According to the Chinese media, Kris has already received offers from production companies in China. Same goes for Hangeng He wouldn't have made the move if he wasn't certain of making it in China. He did mention in an interview that he was making a lot more money in China than in Korea.

Anyway, you have misinterpreted my post. Shinhwa and JYJ jumped ship for a totally different reason and unlike Kris, they weren't moving their base to China.

Ming Banger
Ming Banger

That's fine by me and I'm Korean....if agencies want to treat foreigners like second class citizens then they get what they deserve.

Once again, China has more resources than Korea but choose to actually hire the talented rather than turning them into boy dolls.

jkytam
jkytam

@Ming Banger For better or for worst, K-Pop is conquering the world and it's a well orchestrated process of the Korean entertainment industry. You might not like it but there is no denying that it works perfectly well for the fans and the companies in question is making millions for its shareholder. Production companies in China simply don't have the patience and resources to spend years to groom trainees who might or might not succeed and therefore it's easier to 'raid' Chinese talents from Korea.

Ming Banger
Ming Banger

Yep...because they expect you to be talented before they hire you. They don't spend years grooming boys to be innocent little virgins until they're 30..to insist they speak and act like small children.

shadows_owner
shadows_owner

@jkytam No they didn't. JYJ filled a complain against SME for the same reasons: unfair treatment and slavery contract. SME has done a great job in shading their original reasons. They also "jumped ship" for being atacked on their human rights. The offers to Kris were not solo's... but movie and drama offers. Wich SME refused.

When Kris joined in 2007 I'm he never though this would happen... and after TVXQ he probably though things would get better. Imagine how bad he must have been treated to risk 7 years of hard work going down the drain.
