It’s amusing how rookie boy group HIGH4 maintains the popularity of their debut single, “Not Spring, Love, or Cherry Blossoms” on music charts despite having no stage performances.
The 4-member group that features IU, who actually wrote the lyrics to their debut track, “Not Spring, Love, or Cherry Blossoms,” didn’t get the chance to perform in music shows including Inkigayo since they released their song last April 8. That time, SBS Inkigayo canceled their shows out of respect to the Sewol Ferry tragedy and the show only tallied the scores.
According to SBS Inkigayo‘s official homepage on May 13, “Not Spring, Love, or Cherry Blossoms” ranked no. 1 in the second week of the weekly chart for May. In the SBS Inkigayo chart that reflects 60% of digital music sales and 40% SNS points, HIGH4 has 6000 points for digital music sales and 3500 SNS points, garnering a total of 9500 points. A Pink follows in second place with “Mr. Chu” garnering a total of 7499 points while Akdong Musician comes in at third place with a total of 6801 points for “Give Love.“
Following the release of their debut track, the group achieved the top spot in various online charts such as Melon, Mnet.com, Naver weekly chart, Billboard K-pop chart, and Gaon Chart for the second week of May. With their song ranking first place in the airwaves as well, they have achieved a “grand slam” even without performing on music programs.
This must be because their song, “Not Spring, Love, or Cherry Blossoms,” fits the season very well with its rhythmical melody and the lyrics that IU personally wrote.
HIGH4 is currently preparing for their new album which they aim to release this June. The group is expected to have a full promotion in local music and variety shows as well as act in musicals. They will also have a promotion tour in Japan, China, and other countries.
