Hwayobi Makes First Comeback in Two Years Despite Ongoing Lawsuit Against Previous Agency

Singer Hwayobi has made an unexpected comeback by releasing a song titled “A Beauty Up Close” on August 6.

The groovy track was personally written by the singer, and the rap breaks were performed by talented rapper Wutan, who was a popular contestant on the second season of Mnet’s hip hop survival show “Show Me the Money.” This release marks Hwayobi’s first comeback in two years.

To ensure the high quality of the song, Hwayobi worked together with Grammy Award winning Chris Gehringer, who is known for mastering Rihanna‘s “Loud” and Lady Gaga‘s “Born This Way.” It has been said that the producer spent three days working on the mixing alone, raising the expectations for the final version.
A partial reason for the long overdue comeback is an ongoing lawsuit that Hwayobi recently filed against the CEO of her previous agency Lion Media. The company had illegally copied Hwayobi’s personal seal to sign an investment contract worth 1 billion won (~$960,000 USD), and she was forced to take responsibility for the reimbursement of investment fees, making her the victim of fraud. Hwayobi signed with the company back in January 2011, and since then, she has released only two mini albums and a single.

This is not the first time for Lion Media to run into problems with their artists, either, as singer Younha was sued by the same company in 2011
