tvN Plans to Air Remake of Japan’s “Liar Game” in October

“Liar Game” joins “Tomorrow Cantabile” (Nodame Cantabile) in the list of Japanese series that will be remade in Korea this year.

According to a statement made by a drama representative to iSPlus on August 26, the Korean adaptation of Japan’s “Liar Game” is set to air on cable channel tvN this October.

This information was confirmed with a representative from CJ E&M who said, “It is true that it will be completed by October. There will be a total of 10 episodes and it will follow ‘Valid Love.‘ ‘Liar Game’ is a popular series not only in Japan but in Korea as well so we plan to cast good actors. After finishing the casting work, we plan to begin filming next month.”

The remake of “Liar Game” will be written by Yoo Yong Jae of MBC’s “Time Between Dog and Wolf” and directed by PD Kim Hong Seon, who was in charge of OCN’s “Hero” and SBS’ “Warrior Baek Dong Soo.”

“Liar Game” is a live action adaptation of Kaitani Shinobu’s manga of the same title. The manga, which was first serialized in 2005 and was adapted into a TV series on 2007, is about Nao Kanzaki, a college student who’s honest to a fault. By a twist of fate, she got involved in a fictional “Liar Game Tournament” wherein contestants are encouraged to cheat and lie. The live action series had a second season aired on 2009. It also spawned two live action films that were shown in 2010 and 2012.

Soompiers! Which actors and actresses do you think should play the lead and supporting roles in the Korean remake of “Liar Game?”

I don't forgive korea for hana yori dango, playful kiss, hana kimi!!! Sacrilege....they should stick to their chaebol dramas that's all the best they do anyway....their acting is so forced and not fluid and their is no sense of chemistry...idol should stick to what they do best and that's not acting idc what they are gonna do to nodame. Sure cinematography is great but when ur actors can't carry and scrpit sucks ur only going to keep horny fangirls attention on oppa and fool them into it's the best ever sigh when it is quite the opposite

I will have to be honest of myself, for this news is already uploaded online,  which means people can express their own feelings and opinions, am I right? I can't deny the fact that I actually did not like the idea of this remaking plan. I really truly love Liar Game, I'm sure huge fans like me will understand that feeling. Why I do not like this idea is because everyone knows that people will come up with some crappy talk about comparing which version is better. And that will definitely not satisfy any sides at all. But I still think that this opportunity may be great. I've seen many Korean dramas and some actors/actresses are wonderful. I feel that they still deserve a chance. In my very own opinion, I feel that Japan's "Liar Game" is already satisfying enough, but who knows? (: Regardless of whether the outcome will be positive or not, credits must still be given to Japan, of course. And for those who are desperate for romance in the Korean remake, please remember or let us tell you if you don't even know, romance is not in the category of Liar Game in the first place. I myself do ship Nao and Akiyama in Japan's "Liar Game" too (especially the Final Stage! *fangirls*) However, I don't think we or even the production crew in charge of the remake have the right to change the relationship between them in the show unless they ask Japan. The manga artist and the director never intended or maybe considered  A LITTLE to have romance in the story plot, so I think we should still respect that as that's what makes Liar Game just the way it is.

Hopefully they will tweek the plot a little so the maingirl can be at least a little less dumb. She can be naive, innocent, nice, blah blah blah, i don't care. All of her actions frustrated me to death that I wish I could unsee her scenes.

Im joo eun or kim ji won.  the guy should be yoo yeon seok. I believe in tvn's tendency to cast underrated actors/actresses. Don't let me down now!!

am i that think IU resemble alot Toda Erika? i think IU would be good cast for this... but somehow TvN love to cast someone randomly but actually got hidden talent in acting skills. Therefore, i wonder who they will cast. TvN got a good eye in picking talented actors and actresses.

Yesss! While I liked the Japanese one, I really wished they had romance. So please k drama, add romance to it! I beg you. I wanted the main characters to hook up so bad.

Nooo... no, really. Shôta Matsuda, Erika Toda, and of course Kousuke Suzuki (Fukunaga!) are irreplaceable!!!!! This drama is so incredibly fun and hilarious, in a way that only the Japanese can create. Mind games are one of their forte, and the mood and cast of this one are so great. So it's 10 times NO for me. I can accept it for Nodame Cantabile but not here. This Japanese drama is one of a kind.

It's true that korean dramas are produced better than taiwanese and japanese dramas, not to mention the cinematography quality that is far superior in the former. However, there are some j-dramas and tw-dramas that simply worked really well thanks to some types of actors that you only find in these countries and the genre that matches each country. As for Japan, Nodame Cantabile and Liar Game are by far the best ones. Why? Because classical music (NC) and psychological thrillers (LG) match Japan's drama culture. As for koreans, lots of dramas and sometimes action are the formula for success. And for tw-dramas, it would be romantic comedies. That's why Fated To Love You's korean version didn't work. Korean Nodame Cantabile is probably going to end up as Beethoven Virus 2. And a k-version of Liar Game? I can't even imagine, although I wouldn't mind finally seeing some romance between Akyiama and Nao.
