Who Are the “Giant Babies (Maknaes)” of the K-pop World?

A “giant baby.” The youngest, but tallest member of a group. Recently on an online community, a sort of family tree was posted, listing the ‘giant babies’ of K-pop, from the first generation idol group H.O.T as well as soon-to-debut groups like TS Entertainment’s SONAMOO.

The male “giant babies” include first generation idols H.O.T’s Lee Jae Won and g.o.d’s Kim Tae Woo, all the way to iKON’s Koo Jun Hoe.

H.O.T Lee Jae Won – 184 cm

g.o.d Kim Tae Woo – 190 cm

TVXQ Changmin 185 cm

BEAST Son Dong Woon – 181 cm

B.A.P Zelo – 186.6 cm

GOT7 Yugyeom – 182 cm

iKON Koo Jun Hoe – 182 cm

All of the above easily surpass 180 cm (approx. 6 ft) in height, with Kim Tae Woo towering at 190 cm (approx. 6 ft. 2 in.).

The “giant babies” of the girl group world started with a trio, also all 1994 babies: (former Kara maknae) Kang Ji Young, f(x)‘s Sulli, and miss A‘s Suzy. Now, we have Dal Shabet’s Subin, the recently-debuted Joy from Red Velvet, and the soon-to-debut New Sun of SONAMOO to join the trio.
