It has been reported that actress Kim Hye Soo will be unable to attend the Cannes Film Festival to promote her film “Coin Locker Girl” because of her plans to carry out charity work in Myanmar.

Kim Hye Soo’s latest film “Coin Locker Girl” was selected as a special screening in the “International Critics’ Week” section of the Cannes festival. It is a thriller in which Kim Hye Soo plays the leader of a crime ring in Chinatown in Incheon.

“Kim Hye Soo is volunteering in Myanmar as a representative for UNICEF,” says her agency. “The Cannes Film Festival and her volunteering activities unfortunately overlap, and so it seems that it will be difficult for her to attend Cannes.”

Kim Hye Soo was named a special representative for UNICEF back in 2012, and has been involved in volunteer projects overseas. Her agency says that she has volunteered in Myanmar before when she went there last year, and that she has chosen to keep her promise to the children of the region.

It is of course a huge honor to have a film selected to be shown at the renowned Cannes Film Festival, and so this is no small sacrifice on the part of Kim Hye Soo. It is expected that the film’s director Han Jun Hee and her co-star Kim Go Eun will be attending the festival screening on May 16.

The film was released on April 29 in Korea, opening to largely positive reviews and grabbing the top spot at the box office.
