Actor Park Hae Jin recently sat down with Star News for an interview about his starring role in the much-anticipated upcoming drama “Cheese in the Trap.”

“Cheese in the Trap” is a drama based on a hugely popular web comic of the same name, which tells the story of a student named Hong Seol (played by Kim Go Eun) and her seemingly perfect boyfriend Yoo Jung (played by Park Hae Jin). Many fans of the web comic had suggested that Park Hae Jin would be the perfect actor to take the role of Yoo Jung, which upped the excitement for this adaptation even more when his casting was confirmed.

“Honestly, I’m worried about whether I can do a good job,” Park Hae Jin confesses about his upcoming role. “There are a lot of actors who look more like Yoo Jung than I do, so I’m a bit embarrassed that I’ve taken the role. To be honest, I declined the offer a few times.”

He then explains why he chose to accept the role. “I’m now over the age of thirty,” he says. “When I saw the preliminary script of this drama, I thought, ‘I’ve played a lot of different characters. And I’ll play more roles in the future. But this could be my last opportunity to play a university student.'”

“I saw the script after that, and it seemed like it would be a really great work,” he continues. “The character too. So I decided to take the part. It seemed like if I don’t play a university student now at this age, I won’t be able to ever again, and I won’t be receiving casting offers.”

Park Hae Jin adds, “Our director often sends me information that relates to the role of Yoo Jung. I’m looking at it as I rehearse, and I’m working on creating the character. I’m working hard to give off the feeling that I’m a university student to all the viewers.”

“Cheese in the Trap” also stars Seo Kang Joon, Nam Joo Hyuk, and Lee Sung Kyung. It is slated to premiere on tvN in December.
