SISTAR’s Soyu Once Again Under Fire for Unenthusiastic Demeanor

SISTAR‘s Soyu is once again under fire for a being cold and expressionless.

On October 16, SISTAR held a fansign at the Times Square shopping mall in the Yeongdeungpo district of Seoul, where the member was criticized for being distant and passive, especially during the photo op before the start of the fansign event itself. Soyu was previously criticized for giving a lackluster performance at MBC‘s “Arirang Festival,” as well as grimacing during promotions on KBS‘s “Music Bank” and Mnet‘s “M!Countdown” stages over the past week.

SISTAR’s agency, Starship Entertainment, explained that Soyu injured her back at the Gyeongju Hallyu Dream Festival and hasn’t been able to fully heal. In a statement, a representative stated, “Because of Soyu’s back injury, she hasn’t been feeling very well. She has continued to attend her schedules while receiving treatment, but recently due to overlapping pain from the flu it seems her condition has worsened.”

On the Yeongdeungpo fansign, the representative said, “Soyu attended the fansign because she didn’t want to disappoint the fans, but we’re sorry that she exhibited a poor expression. We intend to cancel any further schedules [so that she can rest].”

To some, however, this statement comes too little, too late. According to a report from TVReport, the damage has already been done. Because this is not the first incident where she has shown a lack of energy, Soyu continues to receive criticism. Some say that the company should have either alerted fans that Soyu was not in the best condition ahead of time, or should not have allowed her to go at all. Furthermore, they feel that canceling her further schedules after the scandal broke out does nothing to fix what damage has been done to her reputation, and by extension SISTAR’s reputation. Others say that Starship should give Soyu more time to recover and tell her to rest even if she wanted to attend the scheduled events.

What do you think about the situation?
