EXO Breaks Jang Geun Suk’s Record With Japanese Debut Single

EXO has made a record-breaking entrance to the Japanese music market with their debut single “Love Me Right ~romantic universe~.”

According to Oricon Weekly, the debut single sold around 147,000 copies in the first week following its release on November 4, earning the No.1 spot on Oricon’s latest Weekly Chart.

This breaks all previous records for a Japanese debut release by a Korean artist. The previous first-week sales record was held by actor and singer Jang Geun Suk, who debuted in May 2011 with “Let Me Cry” which sold 119,000 copies in its first week.

EXO’s Japanese debut single consists of two tracks: a Japanese version of “Love Me Right” and a brand new song entitled “Drop That.”

Just last week, EXO broke another record by becoming the fastest non-Japanese male artist to hold a solo concert at Tokyo Dome, achieving this feat less than four years after their debut. The leading boy group attracted a total of 145,000 fans to their three concerts held from November 6 to 8.
