For as popular as the “Reply” drama series is now, it’s hard to imagine that the producers saw any trouble drawing in its cast. According to the brain behind the series, however, that wasn’t always the case.
On February 22, producer Shin Won Ho opened up about how hard it was trying to get actors interested in the first installment of the series, “Reply 1997.” He explained, “It was really difficult finding actors to fill the leading roles. All the A-list stars turned the drama down. They all said the drama would be a flop, and it was rejection after rejection. Finally, we ended up casting Seo In Guk and Jung Eun Ji for the leading roles.”
Shin Won Ho then went on to talk about Seo In Guk and Jung Eun Ji’s auditions. “They both did very well. Honestly speaking, I didn’t intend to cast them because I was so hopeful to cast bigger names, but they both did so well that they left a good impression.”
Thankfully Seo In Guk and Jung Eun Ji landed the roles, because it’s hard to imagine the show without them!
