Watch: SK-II Encourages Women To “Dream Again” In Touching Video

What is your big dream?

5,500 women around the world were asked this question. Surprisingly, many were unable to answer it.

With the help of an expert counselor, luxury skincare brand SK-II interviewed some women to answer this question. Of course, the counselor isn’t quite who she appears to be…

Hold on, we need a moment to compose ourselves. *reaches for tissues*

This is not the first time that SK-II chose to prioritize internal beauty over external beauty for a marketing campaign. Earlier this year, they sent unmarried Chinese women into a local “marriage market,” not to find potential husbands, but to show their parents that they didn’t need them.

This time around, SK-II launched an initiative, called the Global Dreams Index 2016, aimed at understanding a woman’s willingness to pursue her dreams, and how it can influence her quality of life. In a survey, they asked 4,500 women in 16 different countries whether they still followed their childhood dreams. 59% reported that they had given up on their dreams, usually due to barriers such as limited financial support, fear of leaving one’s comfort zone, and low self-esteem. On the whole, Asian women were more likely than Western women to report that they stopped pursuing their dreams: 81% of Japanese women and 67% of Korean women indicated that had left their dreams behind.

The survey also indicated that women who continue to pursue their dreams are far more likely to be satisfied with life. Therefore, SK-II asks you to remember your dreams and consider pursuing them again.
