Eight Memorable K-Drama Kiss Scenes: Iris, Secret Garden, Empress Ki, and More!
It’s hard to find a Korean drama with no love story, and accordingly, it’s also hard to find a drama with no kiss scenes, the ultimate show of affection in dramas. Over the years, with countless kiss scenes come and gone, they’ve started to get a little bit more creative, and sometimes a little weird, but with a noble cause: in order to remain in our heads and hearts. Here are a few of the kiss scenes, some old and some new, that have managed to do just that.
jun2yng is a Soompi intern who likes K-dramas almost as much as furry animals. Almost.
“Iljimae” (2008) – the blindfolded kiss
Lee Jun Ki and Han Hyo Joo
This one kind of reminds me of the famous upside-down Spiderman kiss, except for the fact that they don’t actually kiss. It’s that K-drama kiss where they just kind of touch lips. Bummer.
“Iris” (2009) – the ‘you-may-or-may-not-like-this-but-please-play-along,’ candy kiss
Lee Byung Hun and Kim Tae Hee
Personally, if that was my gift for White Day, a partially melted/sucked-on piece of candy… well, objects may or may not fly. But on-screen, with Lee Byung Hun and Kim Tae Hee, I accept.
“Secret Garden” (2010) – the ‘probably-going-to-need-a-napkin-anyway’ foam kiss
Hyun Bin and Ha Ji Won
“That’s messy,” he said.. “That’s messy.”

“Gentleman’s Dignity” (2012) – the (somewhat questionable) window kiss.
Jang Dong Gun and Kim Ha Neul
Kind of weird. But they make up for it later.
“Potato Star 2013QR3” (2013) – the ‘I-can’t-wait-for-you-to-take-that-giant-doll-head-off-and-good-’cause-you’ll-probably-be-sweaty-if-you-do,’ doll kiss
Jang Ki Ha and Seo Ye Ji
Unfortunately, I was not able to find videos for this one and the next two, so pictures will have to suffice.
Also kind of weird, though.
“Empress Ki” (2013-2014) – the desperate herbal medicine (plus cure-all saliva) kiss
Ha Ji Won and Ji Chang Wook
Sometimes I think drama writers get a little bit desperate for something new. But we all love Ha Ji Won and Ji Chang Wook, so it’s okay.
“Emergency Couple” (2014) – the (potentially creepy) secret, stolen kiss
Choi Jin Hyuk and Song Ji Hyo
But it’s not creepy. Because it’s Choi Jin Hyuk.
“Witch’s Love” (2014) – the beer foam kiss
Uhm Jung Hwa and Park Seo Joon
Cougar alert!
That’s the end of the list! What’d you think? Which kiss scenes do you remember most from dramas?
