Miss. Yoon Eun Hye... what can I say about her?

A singer, actress, model and graduate in business administration, at the young tender age of 23 she has gone through a lot to accomplish and achieve what many people have not. Being attacked for joining Baby V.O.X., criticized for her weight, doubted for her acting capabilities and slandered by her own managment company, this starlet has gone through the flames and has made it out more refined than ever.

One may go ahead and disagree with me but the facts are there. Raking in 6th place out of the top 10 most paid Korean stars for 2007, with a USD $4,000,000 income from various endorsements, T.V. dramas and her company contract, nobody can deny that her monetary success comes from the great popularity and support that she has garnered from the general public. 

Miss. Yoon Eun Hye... what makes her different from the others?

Never before in my life have I become as avid a fan than I am to Miss. Yoon Eun Hye now. I have often found it a crazy and stupid notion to invest huge amounts of your resources, support and get to know somebody who has neither seen you nor has any idea that you even exist. "Why give so much attention to someone so distant and far away?" I would ask myself as I read up things fans would do for their idols (quite honestly, some are extreme and crazy).

They grow on you.

Huh? Grow on you? What do you mean?

Adoration, admiration, attraction, amiability. When each person starts out knowing about someone famous either through the television, radio, newspaper, etc., they carry a kind of criterion as to whether this person should even be there in the first place.

1st people will regard attraction. Whether this person has the right body, looks, fashion sense, style, voice, plain looking, sophisticated looking, etc. Usually always something to do with the physical and outward appearance of someone.

2nd will either come admiration or adoration. Now these two things are totally seperate and should not be confused with one another. Admiration has something to do with liking the works, successes and achievements of a person while adoration has something to do with liking the values, attitudes, philosophies and lifestyle that makes up a person. Simply put, admiration looks at capabilities, adoration looks at characteristics.    

3rd will be amiability. With regard to this, it has something to do with the way how a person is in the public eye. Are they able to communicate well? Are they approachable? Are they friendly? How do they deal with various situations? One could say that this has strongly to do with the charisma and presentation of a person to everybody else; this often involves getting to know very personal stuff and can either increase or decrease the levels of attraction, admiration and adoration.

When I meant "they grow on you", it was to say that this attraction eventually becomes either admiration / adoration (or even both) which continues swelling with the help of amiability.

However at times, some stars or starlets are only able to grow to a certain extent. Some may pass the attraction stage but fail miserably at the admiration or adoration areas. Others may succeed in going all the way through attraction, admiration and adoration but get walled at amiablity. Even the order of how a star / starlet grows on a possible fan may be different but what matters the most is that if all are successfully pulled off, the strength of loyalty from the fan will be close to unwaverable and could even go as far as obsession (in extreme cases).  

Miss. Yoon Eun Hye... how did she fare in my view?

The first ever to pass through all four criteria and perhaps the only one that may do so. Though it was not exactly something that was borne overnight but rather over a period of time, she has had her way of growing on me.

What can you do when a starlet (that may come once in your lifetime) has passed all your criteria? Pretend that they do not exist? Look away and start walking in the other direction? Cover your head in sand and hide? Or become a fan?

I chose to become my own worst nightmare...
