An Antique Story of True Loveby: Lalamina on: March 12, 2008 11:22am
It’s amazing how the simple little conversations you have with people can make your day seem a lot brighter. Yesterday, was had what you call "good weather" (it rained all day long). When the kids came home from school Vincent was waiting for them ready to take them out to the movies. As much as I would have loved to have gone with them I decided to stay home (I had A LOT of things to do... or so i though). In a few hours I finished what I had to do however it was still pretty early and Devin and Luca were still out with Vince. Then an amazing thing happened, my neighbor decided to stop by with a basket of muffins and cakes (I may not know this woman... but whoever she is I love her). Considering the dreary weather she thought she would spend the beautiful evening with a complete stranger. Of course I let her in and together we sit in the living room drinking tea and eating cakes. Earlier I never really got the change to take a good look at the woman, so now I took this chance to remember her face so I would recognizer her when i saw her again. She was an elderly woman probably in her 60's or early 70's. She looked very strong and healthy, far from lanky and impaired. Also anyone could tell that by looking at her that she was beautiful when she was younger. Watching this woman poor her tea I could see her frail fingers grasp the cup with steadiness and grace when she brought it up to her mouth I saw the lines that traveled around her face. I smiled, knowing that each line had a unique story behind them. I wonder what stories my wrinkles will tell... As if breaking me from my day dream (I do that A LOT) the old woman told me that on days like this she is reminded of the day she meet her husband. Like a puppy, my ears perked with curiosity however I couldn't bring myself to ask her about something so personal (I am a sucker for love stories). As if realizing my curiosity the woman smiled and asked if I wanted to hear her story. I almost choked on cookie when she said that, I nodded my head ridiculously like 5 year old being asked if they want ice cream (... I am such an idiot). NOTE: this a severely condensed version of her story… we were talking for hours] She began her story on a rainy day, much like today. It was late and cold, she was on her way home from a party. Walking home she heard someone cry out in pain, curious and worried she followed the sounds and found a young man lying on the ground with a large stab wound in his shoulder. Seeing the situation, she quickly turned around ready to leave him. However, she stopped and looked at the pitiful man lying on the ground alone and hurt. With all her strength she helped him to her apartment. He ended up staying at her place for many weeks and during that time love blossomed. Of course the people that wounded him in the first place were still a part of her story however thankfully her husband was able to take care of him as well as her in many dangerous situations. (Can love get anymore romantic than that?) After hearing her nearly unbelievable story of love and danger I was the happiest little person in the world. Their love was almost like the love you see in books... fictional (Then again who am I to talk when remembering Devin and Luca’s story -_-). However, her story doesn’t have a happy ending. After their long engagement and finally marriage he only lived for another 10 years dying from cancer. Ever since his death everything just seems to pass by as if nothing is important. It’s been 20 years since his death and during that time she managed to find beauty in life once again through her children and grandchildren. What I remember most vividly about her story is the very first conversation she had with her future husband when she brought him back to her apartment… all wounded and cold [My imagination mixed with what she said of course]. He spoke, “You’ll regret helping me.” "I already regret helping you; however I would also have regretted if I didn’t help you. Either way I was going to lose” she smiled. He paused and chucked to himself, “Thank God for kind people like you, were would the world be with out them…” After listening to her story I remembered that even though there are times in our life when we think we things can’t get any darker there are always people their in our lives whether we think it or not that are their to listen to us and care for us unconditionally. And you never know those people just might literally save your life. And to think she almost left him in the rain praying he would be someone else’s problem. But because of her kind heart she saved his life and found the love of a thousand lifetimes.

I'm a sucker for these type of stories, as detached and rational as I try to keep myself I can't help but enjoy reading stories like this. I think it gives people hope when there are so many bad things happening in this world. Lastly, it's amazing how much a random act of kindness can change your whole day isn't it?

Her love story sounds like it was even better than a television drama! :)
