Hit the Switch

My parents are finally here! Dean and I picked them up from the airport last night and took them to their residence for the next 2 or so weeks.  They're staying 3 stops away from us on the subway, so they're super close.  Unfortunately, it rained today, so it wasn't exactly the most fun-filled day.  We went to Insadong, but the rain just became worse and worse as the day progressed, so we stayed in the restaurants/coffee shops for the most of it.  We'll meet up with them for dinner soon.

On Friday, Dean and I went to an indie-punk show at Rolling Hall in Hongdae.  Five acts performed and it was a great show overall.  The opening band was fun--they had these crazy space sunglasses and wore things like neon green skinny jeans.  The second band was okay, but I wasn't as into their style.  Galaxy Express was third and they were my favorite.  They have a fantastic stage presence and the fanboys obviously adore them.  It's funny--scenester kids are exactly the same here as they are in America.  They dress maybe a litte too carefully to fit a part in their minds, and they seem torn between acting relaxed and acting excited.  The Moonshiners came after, and they were great, as well.  Their music has a 60s inspired sound and some of the guitar riffs were very old-school James Bond-ish.  Very fun.

Here are some pictures from the show.  The guys in the white suits = Galaxy Express.  The guys in the black suits = The Moonshiners.

Also, I don't know if I posted this already or not, but this is a compilation video of some nights out earlier this fall/winter:

Nights Out in Seoul video

This title is Hit the Switch by Bright Eyes

I'm thinking of quitting drinking again
I know I said that a couple times
And I'm always changing my mind, well, I guess I am
But there's this burn in my stomach and there's this pain in my side
And when I kneel at the toilet
And the mornings clean light pours in through the window
Sometimes I pray I don't die
I'm a goddamn hypocrite

But the night rolls around and it all starts making sense
There is no right way or wrong way, you just have to live
And so I do what I do and at least I exist
What could mean more than this?
What would mean more?

Thanks!  They all have pro photographers that come to their shows, though, so I think that mine would be the most amateur of them all.

KTZ811: My school pays for my rent and they chose my apartment, but it's very small and my parents can't fit in it.  They're staying at a hotel three subway stops away.

koncettina: There was a guy in front of me with a GREAT camera who was snapping away--he might have been working for the bands.  A lot of the concert goers had great cameras, though--there were at least 5 or 6 of us with DSLRs.

donguri: Yeah, I was lacking my glass.  I remember that I'd drank a lot earlier that evening, and at that point in the video, it was probably around 4 AM.  I usually won't drink anything past 2 AM because I hate the idea of being wasted or sick in the taxi.

We were up on N Seoul Tower for the night views.  It was a friend's bday.  Pretty cool.  We saw a lot of tourists, both Korean and foreign.

Cooler als Penn...: The afro-subway video was from Halloween.  We all were wearing wigs (I had a long red one, another friend had short and blue, etc).  We had so much fun with them that we decided to go out with the crazy wigs again for a "ladies' night."  Goood times.

I like the music you chose for your videos :) I also really like the fact that your friend wore that awesome fro wig with those glasses. Haha, it reminds me of my high school friends' antics back in the day :D

I hope you and your family have a grand time!

Glad to know that your parents arrived safely! The show sounded like a lot of fun. I really like what you wrote about the scenesters. It made me chuckle because I was staring at a few scene kids the other day & was wondering about that. The only non-celebs you can find anything about on soompi are ulzzangs.

LOL in the video, were you cheering without a glass? I couldn't really tell. Also in the beginning, where were you guys? You had a great view of the city there. Is it a general tourist destination? (If not, I imagine a popular date spot XD)

Sorry for all these questions -_-;; & the song on the video is great. I really like your music taste.

I'm glad that your parents are there and sad that it rained so much...a strange mixture of feelings. They cancel each other out. Anyway that concert looked awesome and those pictures looked professional. I find it depressing that they act the same as here in America. I'm not into that "scene" thing, I just go to concerts and enjoy the music.

Glad you and Dean enjoyed the music, have fun with your parents....do they know Korean?

Glad that your parents had a safe flight! I can't wait to be teaching in Seoul! :D I want my mom and sister to visit while I'm there.

I have a question..

Do you and Dean have your own apartments or you are living in the rooms the school offered you?  If so, then does that mean your parents can sleep over at your place?

Well anyways, I hope they have fun while they're there :D :D

Tell them your soompi fans said hello and have a safe trip! Hope to hear more about their vacationCool
