All Good Things

Hey, I'll be home for the next 2 weeks, so I don't know how frequently I'll be updating.  Right now, I'm supposed to be showering and finishing with my packing, but I am too ADD.  Packing really stresses me out!  My luggage is usually squeezed between my bed and the wall and is stuffed with winter clothing.  So I have to unload all that crap, dump it on my bed, stuff my vacation clothes in, and then...I have quite the mess on my hands.  Dean and I are leaving Blue in the care of a friendly SMOE worker who lives next door, so we don't have to worry about taking him to the vet.

Thanks for all the engagement wishes!  Sorry I haven't gotten the chance to respond to everyone indivudually yet--I was a bit busy the last few days.  I'll be responding when I get home and have time to relax.

My camp finished on Friday and I guess it was fairly successful.  The kids remembered a surprising amount from the lessons (I gave them a test muahah).  After, we had our "party", which consisted of demolishing a bag of Paris Baguette sweet bread and some chocolate milk while watching "Red Eye" (or  "Night Flight", as it's called here). I had been looking for a movie that would be age appropriate (no nudity, excessive swearing, not too adultlike, not too childlike) and settled on Red Eye.  It was a BLAST.  The kids shrieked, laughed, hid behind their notebooks, yelled impatiently at the screen, etc.  After, we had about 30 extra minutes of free time, so they ended up choosing to watch these insane cartoons called Happy Tree Friends.  I guess they're American--I'd never heard of them.  Basically...it was like the Itchy and Scratchy Show from the Simpsons but with really cute little characters.  Each cute characters gets killed in creatively gruesome ways--swallowing charcoals, getting their brains ripped out by zombies, having their limbs torn off by animal traps, eating shards of lightbulb glass, and so forth.  I was transfixed by how horrible it was...I'm not sure if my boys enjoyed laughing at the show or me more.  So if you're in a pissed off mood but want to see something starring cute animations with names like Giggles, then check out Happy Tree Friends.  Each episode is just 1-3 minutes long.

This weekend, Dean and I had a bunch of errands to run.  We had to get health checks (which proved to be much more complicated than we'd originally thought), Dean had to renew his E-2 visa at Immigration (a nightmare--it was packed and sweltering), I had to buy some stuff for my sisters and a friend at home...  At night, we relaxed by having samgyeopsal and going to some of the bar/cafes.  The interesting thing about Korea is that a regular cafe has tons of alcohol, as well.  Outside of the building, it will say the name and then what it sells.  Example:  Tree Cafe.  Soju!  Coffee!  Tea!  Beer!  Cake!

When I come back in two weeks, I hope that I'll be rested and revved up for the new semester.  Looking back on the year, I can say that I have learned so, so much about ESL teaching and responsbility.  Going from a lazy college student to a teacher who is always supposed to have the right answers definitely made me feel uncomfortable.  It was a transition that I was fighting mentally all year.  But I really want to come back this semester with fresh energy and ideas.

Here are Dean and me, back at Heaven:

If you can't read Hangeul, this just says "Heaven" or "Heh-beun."

Shockingly, it was really beautiful during the daytime today and Friday!  While that was fantastic, the humidity kept me feeling disgusting every time I left the AC.

I like my new bangs...but I feel like a schoolgirl.

Finally, here's a picture of me and my camp kids (some were late that day so they're not in the picture. I also blurred my face out because I was blinking...looked ridiculous).

This title is All Good Things by Nelly Furtado

Traveling I only stop at exits
Wondering if I'll stay
Young and restless
Living this way I stress less
I want to pull away when the dream dies
The pain sets it and I don't cry
I only feel gravity and I wonder why

 LOL XD

It's great that camp is over. Glad to know that your students remembered your lessons and everything.Reading about how they reacted to the movie made me want to be there and see it. How cute~

Also I really love that photo of Dean holding the sun. The colors are amazing <3 And your bangs are very nice but I'm wondering if you have to blowdry them to keep them that way. I'm assuming that's a younger style haircut? I think it looks adorable on you.

Dang I've missed so many blog entries. After catching up, I want to congratulate your engagement. I knew this was going to happen since it was only natural; it's easy to see the love you both have for one another. By the way, your ring is beautiful.

Glad to see that your camp is going well and the stories you have of your students are always so cute.

Cheers!

I'm glad your camp thinga majig(not a word =P) went well. I'd like to do that when I get there! I knew how to read the hangul!!! Though I didn't know what it meant in English! =[

Anyway packing is a giant nuisance to me as well. Can't I just throw some random clothes in a bag?? And I NEVER unpack! Just keep it all in the suitcase, unless I'm staying there for a long time, which never happens anyway. I think VISA's are just unnecessary. I have a passport...bam! Is Dean restricted to certain areas. That would bother the Hell out of me!

I happen to love your new bangs. They shape your face very well!

Loves!
