Hot Knives

Sorry I didn't update for a good week or so--Dean and I had to pack up everything and we were so busy that we didn't really have time to do anything interesting.  Last week, there was a Seoul Food Festival, but we couldn't go to anything for it because we were too stressed.

We did manage to go to the zoo, though!  Two of our foreigner friends came, as well as a group of Korean guys.  It was kind of strange to see them in daylight on a Sunday rather than at night in a neon and soju induced Saturday.  The zoo was pretty sad, actually...there wasn't much space for the animals to move around.  It was cute to see all the adorable babies and families, though.

A week and a half into classes and I'm back in the swing of things.  We did a book lesson for the 3rd years and a worksheet for the 1st years.  Although the lessons were far from thrilling, the kids sucked it up admirably.  I have to say, it's so nice to come home to a space that consists of more than one room.  When Dean and I moved in on Friday, I laughed like a hysterical person and jumped around the empty space for ten minutes straight.  Even without a fridge, stove, air conditioning, or a washing machine, it still felt like a palace.  We went to Home Plus on Saturday and bought a fridge and a "gas range", which is basically a stove.  Many Korean apartments DON'T come with a stove built in.  So instead, families buy two or three burners that just sit on top of the counter.  And ovens?  I haven't heard of one single person who owns one.  Not even my co-teachers have an oven.

My school is also renovating their conference room, so I'm getting two of the big chairs in there for free!  The thing is...they're really kind of strange-looking.  They are low, really wide and made fom dark wood and leather.  They are so fomal and wide that I can't imagine how they'll look just sitting in the middle of our living room.  But hey, free furniture is free furniture!  I can't be a chooser.

Last night was Nike's 10k Human Race.  One of our friends was running, so Dean and I went with a bag of puffy American cheetos to give her (she loves them).  Tens of thousands particpated in the race.  It was amazing to see a line of thousands in matching red t-shirts making their way down the wide streets of Seoul at dusk.  After, Dynamic Duo and Big Bang had a free performance.  Technically, you had a to be a runner or related to one to get in.  But our friend just pulled us through the guards with her.  We were standing far in the back, but it was still a fun show.

This title is Hot Knives by Bright Eyes

She went to see a mystic
Who made medicine from rain
And gave up her existence
To feel everything, dream other’s dreams
Bid farewell to her family
With one ecstatic wave
(Please take care, I love you all)
Out the window as the car rolled away
She just vanished into a thick mist of change

Sorry to hear that you have been stressed these past weeks. Sometimes stressing is good....I think! =]

Zoos are okay....I never liked watching animals all crammed together not in their natural habitat. But then most of them would die IN their natural habitat....so yeah.

I would scream if I didn't have an oven.....I cook a lot! But I would deal. =D

Oh I love Big Bang! And the Human Race looked fun. I love the pictures, you're very beautiful. <3
