Photo post: Everywhere You Turnby: the real ginger on: March 16, 2008 7:21am
I was so tired last night (on top of not feeling well), so I just went to Yongsan, picked up a new lens I'd been lusting after, and stayed in to take some pictures. Today, Dean and I walked around Gwanak-san (Gwanak mountain, near Seoul National University) and then got some patbingsoo from Kiss. Kiss is unbearable cute inside--you sit on wooden swinging benches that have ivy and flowers winding up on the ropes. A picture of Blue looking quite cute.
Dean being sassy while on the phone
Dean being...thoughtful?
My hair in the morning
Another cat picture.
Out of focus double reflection
Gwanak trails
Dean face-maskin' it.
And finally...the amazing patbingsoo.
That's all, folks. »

Thanks! I like photography because it's my visual quick fix. In USD, the camera probably would have been around $420?

I love your pictures! You should be a part time photographer lol.
So how much was your camera in US dollars?

Thanks! Yup, Dean is teaching at a nearby middle school. Our students live in the same neighborhoods, so all of his students have heard about me and all of my students pester me constantly about "Seil tee-chuh is boy-puh-ren-du?"

Thanks for posting! You know, DSLRs can be a bit of a drag because they're so bulky. I bought my D40 with the kit lens, and that thing is quite long/big (er, this kind of sounds dirty). I replaced that lens with a 50 mm f/1.8 lens and I can't imagine going back to the kit lens anymore. The 50mm is a LOT smaller and cuts down on the bulk a lot. I would recommended looking into the 50 mm f/1.8 and buying the body separately if you are getting a Nikon, because it's just *that* much better and easier to carry than the kit lens.
Anyway, I can see myself still bringing this out on some weekends. I can fit it in one of my big handbags and it's okay. I still have my Canon A540 Powershot that I love, but now that I have this new (and much more portable) lens, I think I'm going to start using this camera all the time.

at the risk of sounding like a total fangirl, i just have to tell you that i love your posts/blogs on soompi. :) and your pictures are gorgeous! i'm thinking of investing in a dslr camera now, but are they a bit bulky to carry around? my dad has an old nikon (not digital) that's great but with the additional weight of the lens, it's like holding up a huge (and heavy) rock.

I think I replied to this but it got deleted? Oh, well. It's a Nikon D40--pretty standard but it does its job beautifully. I just got a new lens, so that definitely makes a difference.

Thanks! I thought about getting a more fancy model, but in the end, I was like, "I'm not a professional photographer--an entry/intermediate-level DSLR will be just fine." It was only $410 here! Not bad. It's the Nikon D40 and these pictures were taken with the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 lens (which makes the hugest difference ever).
The patbingsoo in Korea is so amazing--there are so many places to get it. My boyfriend and I love that particular place because they give you tons of dduk (떡), whereas places like Ice Berry only give you six measily peices (yes, we count every time. We're that lame)! Thanks for commenting!

Yup, I took the pictures. In college, I loved doing photoshoots for my friends, but I had a crap camera for most of them. Even the "nicer" ones weren't done with a DSLR. So now that I *do* have a DSLR, I'm trying to find some interesting Korean chicas to do them with me.
The weather has gotten a LOT nicer. It's still cold at night (in the 40s), but the highs for the day have been in the upper 50s, low 60s. Still jealous of my parents home in WV--they said it was 75 last week.

It looks especially vibrant in the bedhead picture. It's a fun color but maintaining it is going to be hard, I can tell.

Wow, I've got to say that I LOVE your new camera. It takes amazing pictures - the quality is great as well. May I ask which model it is? Btw, that patbingsoo looks SO GOOD. I've never seen a patbingsoo that pretty in my life! (except in pictures of course) Thank you for posting so regularly. Your posts make my day :)

Wow, that's a really nice camera. Were you the one who take these photos? if so-it is absolutely nice. There's no noise around the image. That's a nice hair color =)
How's the weather over there? it looks gorgeous.

Yeah, my hair gets damaged, but honestly...I kind of prefer it that way. My natural hair is so silky that it doesn't hold any styles--the hair just slips from the clips and ties. I used to only be able to wear my hair in a ponytail or down, and it was so boring. So now that my hair has more texture, I can do really fun styles. Before, styling products just left my hair super limp and greasy looking, but now they actually STYLE! :) So yeah...I guess it's a trade off.

Thanks! It's only been a week and a 1/2, though, and the roots are already looking shoddy. :( Gonna have to do them soon.

Wow, your hair always looks awesome, even the bedhead ones. :) Doesn't your hair get damaged by all the dyeing though? Just curious because I've always wanted to dye my hair red, but I've never done it before.

ahhhh I LOVE your blog!!! I'm going to Korea this summer, so this blog has been SOOOO helpful!!! I'm full Korean and can speak it okay, but since I grew up in the US and I've never been to Korea before, reading about Korea from your perspective is super super helpful (I also read all your comments in the Visiting korea thread^^). Your pictures are also amazing. What kind of camera do you use? (Sorry if this question has been answered before in your blog, I couldn't remember -.-;;)

Kiss is quite cute, and I don't know if it's a chain. Can More (strange name, I know), kind of resembles Kiss in the swing-set chairs and I know that one's a chain.

I can't get over how crazy red my hair looks in the bedhead pictures. It's more of an orange-yellow--I can only wish it were that red.

Thanks! I'm loving this new lens (the Nikon 50mm f/1.8). Not only is it so much easier to carry around than my kit lens, it just...takes really, really fun pictures.

There are always so many old people hiking in Korea! It's astonishing! Every time you go out on the weekends, you see groups of people our grandparents' age dressed in their hiking gear.
