I stood there on the edge of the cliff, a tear rolled down my cheek and fell in the lake beneath me. I stood there looking out beyond what my eyes could see.  Searching ..for answers..for time..for him…

 

*flashback*

 

“Can you love someone so much, that you can take away their life?” he asked.

The rain started pouring harder drowning out any thoughts and noise in my mind.

“Can you love someone so much to take away their life, if you knew it would be better for them?”

The gun felt heavy in my hand. I wanted to throw it at him. The guy who was making us go through all this. And though he was only doing his job, it was tearing us apart. To think at one end my best friend stands and at the other my lover.

 

I raised the gun and pointed it at him. “BOOM”!

 

*End of flash back*

“Mommy! Look, what a pweety butterflea it is it!!” Mayleen called out for my    attention while running after the butterfly.

“Yes, its very pretty isn’t it? And you call it butterfly May, not butterflea.”

 

I took in a deep breath picked up my daughter in my arms and started to walk back. I could never spend more than 15 minutes in this place.

 

“Mommy, why do we come here every month..?..What is it about this place that you like so much?”

I looked at May and smiled, she had her innocent smile on her face again. The one that could get her anything she wanted, just like him. Her father.

 

“It’s a long story May, a story that happened 4 years ago” but she was already making herself comfortable on my shoulder and was about to fall asleep.

 

It will be 4 years today…4 long years and I have managed to stay strong..4 long years..from that night. “can you love someone, so much that you can take away their life?” I stopped in my tracks..i knew that voice.

 

But I was too scared to turn around.

“No”..i finally managed to whisper out..

I slowly turned around with my daughter in my arms..and there he was. Standing just the way he used to 4 years back, with a purple rose in hand and a smirk on his face which would turn into a smile of innocence and love.
