I was very playful as a kid, liked to try danger stuff. I remember once, when I played with my little sister, I made her fell and broke her arm. LBH---360degrees

Bh has made a complete 360 degree turn and has shifted to more action films of late. seems to me that Once In A Summer is the finale to his romance-drama roles before shifting full gear towards action-drama films, which is a good thing. he's showing us the "good" and the "bad" side of him. both ways he is EXTREME...suffix everything about him with -est.

when it rains..it really pours

and that's the best to be said about Byung Hun's latest venture IRIS. i think the snowball effect on BH's career started since his 37th birthday in july and eversince there's no stopping this man. he is just so super-energized. i think that what keeps him going is first, the sense of triumph he gets when finishing a job, be it filming, concerts, promos everything he's involved it. and secondly, like always is the happiness he knows he gives to his many fans be it in korea or any other part of the world. i think he's getting there...finally an international award(maybe at Cannes) and eventually an Oscar( i hope). lee byung hun ,to me,is rainfall which at times could be fierce and thunderous, but he also is the gentlest and the most soothing raindrop that touches you.

loneliness remembers...what happiness forgets?

not for me. i think of him, about him in my loneliest and happiest moments. if he was re-dicovering himself i did too, with his life and his films. he is one person who does not stay idle. he works hard, he plays hard. in latin, they say"carpe diem" (seize the day) and this is exactly what he does. he makes every second count. maybe that's why he was wearing beads on his arm during his birthday, at Tokyo Dome and in the ICWTR shoot. he stopped wearing a watch, maybe because he finds it distracting, he wants to concentrate on the task ahead, not see if he's on schedule. he's so systematic....so enchanting...so enhancing. and i will never forget the day that i came to know Lee Byung Hun. he has changed me in so many ways.

still on OIAS

i don't know why that particular scene where Suk-Young opens a window in his house, keeps haunting me. i find it so poetic, so full of meaning. its like he's finally coming to terms with himself, freeing himself from the "prison" he built because of his guilt ridden past, that he was welcoming a new chapter in his life. to me it sent out a feeling of solitude, of peace. OIAS also made me feel that a warm tight embrace was a more deeply expressive than a kiss. the movie just brought out so many emotions in me...from frustration, helplessness, emptiness to hope, joy, contentment, its my oasis of human emotion. and in my box of memories a copy of the movie will be there. its my treasure, thoughts...dreams...of feelings evoked. that to me is priceless.

imprints of OIAS

there are a lot of scenes that are unforgettable to me which i want to share because it fills my cup of joy. its the sweetness that arises throughout the movie from start to finish.

the first meeting of Suk Yong and Jung In in the forest of cypress trees, that shot of him where he stops to look at the trees when actually he says later it was the scent of those trees that brought him there. a beautiful shot, its as if he was about to enter paradise. then later you see him wringing his shirt like a little child, he looked so sweet!

then there's always the way he looks at her, with loving eyes as she was singing, as he invited her to his room for their "movie date". there when he unfolded the curtainand the chairs for their special spot, he gave her a comforting smile.

the funny and sweet part was when they were crossing the stream and he wanted to plant her a kiss and she was bending backwards as he was pushing himself forward. it was a most beautiful silhouette of the lovers, just like the other when they were caught in the rain and they had to seek shelter in a hut and he's there standing while Jung In quietly sits.....then he says" i have done everything that you wanted me to"...much too sweet!

the two funniest scenes for me was when they were walking home after being left by the bus and he slumps on the ground like a child throwing a tantrum, only to run after her later. the second was when he was lazily lying on top of a haystack and he overhears Jung In reading to the elders. he peeks and lies back laughing then later chiding her for changing the story.

it was a sweet parting at the prison. a one-on-one showdown of emotion by the two actors. the not-so-sweet part was the slapping and the head whacking Lee Byung Hun got and the hurt showed, his face was so red. and i counted it, must have been a dozen times. and i was saying to myself, not the face please anywhere but not the face!!!! but he endured it all and i was amazed by his performance. it was so realistic!

it was a sweet parting too at the railroad station. Su Ae leaning against his shoulders, lost as to what she was to do now that she was planning to leave him. the way she held on to his hand, not wanting to let go just yet, you could feel her pain. it was a heartache not a headache that was troubling her. she acted the part so well.

and how can i ever forget the scene where Suk Young was on his was to the orphanage, he said what worries him was that she might have been alone all those years but she was not. and the tears dropped when he saw this in the pictures inside the Jung In's box of memories. the one with the leaves and the rock he gave her. they were big tears not the type that rolls down the cheek.

now i can picture how Lee Byung Hun would look like when he gets older, he will still be the handsome man that he is today.

Once In A Summer is a movie that lets you believe in the sweetness of love, in how far a loving heart goes to the point of self-sacrifice, that there is such a thing as undying love, a love worth waiting for, a love worth living for. i'm seeing it again today after i write this and its worth writing more about....

nobody does it better..

i didn't realize how much i missed Lee Byung Hun until i saw the movie Once In A Summer. after a year, i finally got a copy and i saw it twice in a row and i still feel like watching it one more time. its no wonder it won as best movie in Chunsa. its a different kind of love story, light and funny at first then sad andheartbreaking towards the end. LBH chose a very good script. i liked the part where he was cute and comical and it reminded me of him in Bunjee Jumping. Su Ae was perfect in her quiet role as village librarian. her eyes, her best asset, carried her thru. the film was a journey of emotions and it travelled so fast it was soon over. the dialogues were short and crisp, the settings finely chosen, the actors blending well. two things that i cannot forget about the movie, cypress trees and fish rocks. now i'm aching to see LBH in another drama for this is where he simply is the best. no, nobody does it better and i mean nobody!

hardly a debut...

and he did say in one interview that he did not want to debut in hollywood as another Asian star in a martial arts film. but now, two years after, he has agreed to do one such film. but on the condition that it focus on his korean heritage, and that's what we call conviction. and i greatly admire him for it. call it guts if you want, but this man has a lot of it. so now he's there bravely fulfilling his ambition...alone...in a foreign land.

here is a man who in his homeland has the stature equal to that of other hollywood superstars and yet he chooses a support role in a movie which is JUST A FRACTION of his dream.

and then i ask myself,why? is he seeking glory, fulfillment, a sense of personal satisfaction, a childhood dream in such a small role? only he knows. which once again proves the BYUNG HUN MYSTIQUE.

which is doing things, acting roles wherein he surprises even himself. it is doing something out of the ordinary,it is exceeding himself. it is reinventing,his looks and his physique. it is taking on a role as if it were second skin, it is "attacking" a role be it big or small and emerging victorious along the way.
