Original source  S
ingapore Lianhe Zaobao - 1 Oct 2004 - an email interview with LBH on the release of his movie, Three, Monster

Translated from Mandarin to English by Shirley.st at LBH.SG

With regards to the rumours that his separation with Song Kye Hyo has speed up his plans for overseas studies, Lee Byung Hun respond: Currently, I have no plans for overseas studies.

On the queries relating to his sorrow after his break off with Song Kye Hyo, how he overcome, if the two of them can still be friends even thought not lovers, Lee Byung Hun had declined to comment. But once on the topic of work, he was very enthuastic He commented that he had watched Three (part 1) and liked it very much, but he love the sequel 'THREE,
EXTREME' more, as it is more unquie.

Belief in evil nature hidden within man's subconsciousness

In CUT, Lee Byung Hun is in the role of a director, and an extra in his movie broke into his house, tied up his wife, the psychotic threatened : To cut his wife fingers off one by one, he forced Lee Byung Hun to kill the unknown little girl in the living room, driven into a corner, Lee Byung Hun finally was forced to violently squeezed the girl's neck.

Lee Byung Hun acting was so realistic, veins on his face and hands seem on the verge of  bursting. Asked if he has any inclination towards violence hidden in him.

He replied amusingly : I believed everyone has an evil nature hidden within their subconsciousness. It is embrasssing to reveal this, but I thought that you should know.

Everyone said that I was an obedient child when I was young, and now everyone said I am a good man. Actually, I am in a dilemna, sometimes I will think should I think of of other people interest, or just be concerned with my own needs. This dilemna had always been pressurizing to me. But as times goes by and I mature, I slowly learned to control my emotions and learn to live with others in more harmorny

Enjoy working with Park Chan Wook

Cut enables Lee Byung Hun to come out of the romantic Kdrama hunk image. He said the role of a director is refreshing/and he will explore other roles in return of his fans' support. Reality and illusion interwine in CUT, Lee expressed his views that it is not necessary for him to study similar roles in other movies to improvise his performance, as long as he talks with director Park, he will be able to grasp the essence of the role.

Before Cut, Lee Byung Hun had cooperated with Director Park before in JSA, many have viewed the works of Director Park focuses on violence.

Lee think that is just a matter of different tastes

When I was filming CUT, I don’t find it cruel nor violent. I just felt the director wanted to expresss the darkness lurking in man. Though it is an horror movie, but I fear the audience will laugh.

He enjoyed working with Director Park : to me, he is both a mentor and a friend, very joyous person, accurate judgement, hoping for another opportunity to work with him. He said K
orea have a lot of other outstanding directors which he also wish to work with.

Three reasons for recommending THREE

THREE was released in
Singapore three weeks ago, responce is postive. Lee Byung Hun cited three reasons to recommend it to the audience :

a. Three directors "
Park Chan Wook, Fruit chan Takashi Miike each have their own distinctive style"

2. As compared to other horror movies , it will not only make you feel fear, but also laughter as well as a perculiar feeling of weirdness

3. The three segements are packaged and filmed in different style, even if you are really fussy, there will be one that suit your taste

Lee Byung hun said that he love movies . and watch all sort of genre . but as he is too busy, he usually watch it on DVD . His favourite Chinese actors are Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung.

"Lee Hyung Hun revealed that now, only he can scare himself. No one is able to scare him. I am in fear that i will not be able to escape from the enclosure I built around myself"

--- feedback from fans 2004

Members at the LBH thread, soompi. Com were so interested with the statement LBH made that many of us have came out with several interpretation. We know that LBH is very intellectual and often times his statement is not what it seems. Here are the comments take from the thread for your reference. It would be our hope to know what LBH really meant by it but if it’s not possible to get his response which we don’t mind as we understood his busy schedule, could you…as the one closest to him, enlighten us of what the statement really refers to? We would appreciate it very much.

1- LSlSW

Oh....what does he mean? Was he so hurt that he alienate himself to another level or built a 'glass wall' around imself? Was he toughening himself up that he finds himself difficult to reach within or escape...??? Very very complex....cannot decipher.....but sounds so sad.....

2 - Liezle

i've been reading those lines that rubie posted over and over trying too decipher too what lbh means.  it's deep in meaning . it's like he dug his own hole that he doesn't know how to get out of it.  or to put it in a more constructive way, i guess lbh is afraid that he cannot be a normal person anymore like what he used to be.  this is only my two cents.

3 - Carmina
From this statement, BH may be referring to his personal autonomy, that he is in total control of his life & the bounds of his potentials lie within his own actions. To be philosophical about it, he seems to be saying that he is the master of his own destiny & that no one can put him down except himself.

4- Aldersgate

I too share the same thought as LSISW, that LBH had built a wall around himself but thanks to Carmina for showing us a different positve light.

5 - Rubie
I have mixed feelings actually reading this statement of his....don't know what to make of it the first time reading it...but I'd like to go with Carmina's interpretation and not referring to 'that' event not so long ago. LBH as we all know is an eloquent person, what he says is not always as straightforward as it should be...usually with a deep meaning that represents the man himself. His thoughts and his feelings, indirectly...he wants the fans to understand him.

6 - LSlSW

Yeah...Carmina's interpretation is more positive....I think it is the right one.

Wow....got us all so confused, worried and anxious..

7 - Liezle

yup i agree with you guys. i like the way carmina analyzed lbh's statement.

8 - Ellabel

LSlSW and Carmina have different possible interpretations of the above statement from LBH. We couldn't read his mind so we can only guess here.

Personally, I think he was more thinking in the lines of what else he can achieve for himself after all the things that he'd been through or had accomplished.

At this point in his life, he had already achieved and experienced so much, all the sufferings, endurance and triumphs all contributed to what he has become or what he is now. He is afraid that he can no longer challenged himself to get out of his comfort zone and take risks and reach for even higher goals. That's just what I think.

9 - Hello_kitty7007

Thanks River for the article. His statement no one can scare me, maybe indicating that he is now very mature in his life, and that he can face and had faced many difficulty in life.

10 - summerscent

he is truly a very deep person based from his statement. yes like carmina said everyone is the master of his own destiny and no one can put someone down except oneself. you are you own story, you do your own history. but what i think about fron his statement is that..... he built a wall around himself to protect himself from any pain or anything that might hurt him or so that everyone wont be able to get so close to him thereby avoiding pain in the process when everything fails. and him saying that he fears he wont be able to escape it...means that he is aware of that wall but is not breaking it...so in the process miss out on so many things in life because he avoids everything that would cause him any pain...especially emotional pain. or another interpretation is that..he expects so much for himself and that when he falls short from that expectations he wont feel very good about it and that would make him less of a person. one good thing about him is that he is aware of it and trying to do something about it so in a way he is enjoying life as they come very carefully and very cautious is everything that he does and this i guess adds more character to his personality.

11- Aldersgate

Another good positive interpretation of his interview.

Why is LBH confusing us?

12 - Won_

haha well he just wants to show us perhaps tht he's such a deep person.. poetic?! maybe?! but he's definitely a very intelligent person!

13 - Carmina

Well said summerscent... LBH is indeed a deep thinker. Your analysis made me see the other part of BH ... that of a person who distances himself from circumstances that will hurt him ... maybe even from people who brought him pain & disappointments. And that scares him too coz he's closing himself to certain possibilities that could be beneficial to him & to people who genuinely care for him. Because of that wall that he built to protect himself, he might miss the chance of showing the gentle side of his persona, his vulnerabilities which make him human like any of us ... It's a relief that he is aware of this predicament ... & I believe that his awareness will help him overcome it.

---- LBH's own answer via his manager, Charles Pak (October 18, 2004)

I had a chance to confer with BH and he was commenting that he wondered if his role in three would be convincing enough to scare people.  Hope that helps.
