i noticed i tend to "grind" my teeth at night.
not all the time. but sometimes. i pretty much just clench my jaw really tight all night long and when i wake up in the morning my teeth are sore. my bf says its dangerous and i should go see dentist. he also says alot of the times its stress related. anyone have this problem? -------------------- |

yeah, i have this problem.
it happens once in a while and if you go to the dentist [i havent been yet], they'll give you a mouthgard thing to put in your mouth at night. just try not to clench your teeth together much. -------------------- |

yessssssssss it's badd for your teeth. they deteriorate the roots of your teeth or something. i don't know what all happens, but my dad grinds his teeth EVERY SINGLE FREAKING NIGHT. it is so bad. and so he has to take someof his teeth out and get implants. freaking costs so much money. so go check it out and get a night guard thing.

I did that all the time last year. My mom never took me to go get the night guards though. I had braces at the time so she figured she couldn't really do anything about it. It just depends on how much stress you had and I did it whenever I slept really late :[.

Yeah... it's really bad to grind your teeth. Thats why a lot of people wear those mouth guards thing.
Over time, bruxing shortens and blunts the teeth being ground, and may lead to pain in the joint of the jaw, the temporomandibular joint, or headache. Teeth hollowed by previous decay (caries) may collapse; the pressure exerted by bruxism on the teeth is extraordinarily high. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruxism So, yes. It is dangerous. Just wear the Sleep Guard thing. -------------------- |

I grind my teeth usually when stressed, but I've been doing it since I was little. My mom does it as well, but our dentist hasn't told us we have to wear a mouth guard. He did say that if it hurt in the morning, or my jaw was sore, then I could wear one. If you want to protect your teeth, they have guards at Walmart.

It is stress related. My dad had the same exact problem. When my friends are drunk and they've gone through the "breaking down" cycle (i.e.- "AHHHH! He doesn't like me anymore!!!!!! *Sobs*") they often cry themselves to sleep, resulting in cursing during the night and grinding their teeth.
This actually is a pretty seriously condition. I suggest you go talk to your doctor, or dentist about this. The enamel on my dad's teeth have been worn down SO much, and that's why he has to wear a retainer before he goes to sleep. It's pretty much an Invisilign. |

Do we HAVE to go to a doctor or dentist to get the mouthguard? Shouldn't it just be avaiable in regular stores? The problem seems way too common to be told to go to a doctor or dentist when we should have it readily available to us. I grind my teeth and it is definitely stress.

i started doing it last year in the beginning of 8th grade.
my brother did it a lot too. but i don't do it that much. i was at a dentist reading a book on teeth because i was so bored. & grinding wears away your tooth. i saw all these pictures of uneven teeth due to grinding. it was scary. |
