Finally dug my computer for pictures! happy.gif

This is about a week after I got my perm:

2 months:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v167/kit...pi/DSC00155.jpg

4 months:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v167/kit...1/soompi/03.jpg

I had mine done last April, so it's been 4 months now. My hair's naturally frizzy so I use leave-in conditioner while I scrunch it. I had my hair layered and thinned out the other day, and somehow it changed the way my curls looked (pic). I still like it though! Looks more natural now. I'm the type who gets bored easily so I've had my hair cut three times after my perm. tongue.gif

My little sister had her hair permed too, but she has really long and thick hair, so the curls look so gorgeous on her. ohmy.gif

^That's super cute, I love it...I like the 4 months one. I like how there's 3-4 different types of curls as time passes....it's awesome. So Soompiers, if yours turn out too curly and super frizzy, don't worry, it should die down after a few weeks.

How many different sizes of curls do they have? For ex. do you get to choose the size of the rods they use or something?

Btw I have really thick hair and when I curl it with a curling iron/straightner it gets really big and sometimes frizzy so I'm afraid to get a perm but I love curls! I was wondering if anyone had thick hair in here and did it? pictures? thanks :]

Hm well I think there are a variety of different sizes but you have to pay more (for me anyway) so I just got one size.

^ Yeah I have really really thick hair. It was layered a lot but has grown out so much since I first got it. I need a haircut >.<

okay so after months and months of making my mind and changing it, i finally set a salon date for ...FRIDAY !!!!
but like the thing is...the lady said the perm costs $160....is that abnormally expensive ?!?! i've been reading some posts and people keep saying 'around $70'.....T.T my hair isnt long at all. it's actually layered, so the shortest layer comes to my jaw like a bob cut...and my longest layer comes only just a little down from my collarbone......

also, would my hair look like an afro.....
cuz i know digital perm looks reallllly nice on people wiht long hair....
but my hair isnt long, and it's layered so ... yea smile.gif

^I don't think there is a good place...I knew somebody who got her hair permed at Hair City, but let's just say it didn't turn out too great for $200.

I permed my hair again two months ago. XD My hair obviously wasn't as strong as before, so the curl doesn't hold as well. Nothing a little hairspray can't fix though. tongue.gif Still loving my hair~

How long does digital perm last? My hair isn't strong; it's very thin, so I was wondering. I really want to get it, but I don't want it to be gone in like... half a year.

If your hair isn't very strong, I wouldn't suggest getting it. I got one earlier this fall and my hair was pretty weak from dye jobs. It BARELY held anything and just looked messy--not curly and wavy at all. Just messy. Plus, it destroyed my hair completely, I got tangles all the time, and last month, I just cut it all off because it was so terrible.

THINK CAREFULLY, LADIES!!

I've never heard the term digital perm, I thought it was just 'perm' for like extra curls.

But now I really really am interested in getting one! I've never gotten any kind of hair treatment besides just dying my hair before. My hair is super thick.. (and growing pretty long. Like, below armpit crease) depending on what i've read, it would work pretty well then.. right?

I'm glad to see it stays intact for months in time. I haven't read all the pages in here.. but for any of you girls that got the perm, have you ever straightened it (with like a flatiron), and did it turn back to intact curls or kinda ruined? I'm imagining the heat would kinda ruin it of course..?

What's some tips to keep it intact/healthy?
I mean I know it kills your hair (but I can deal with that; I can never tell when my hair is dead or not? I take care of it pretty well haha)

I have so many questions because now I'm so interested haha. Very cute hairstyle.

(I just called four big salons and they said they don't do it and if they DO do some sort of permanent wave, it only lasts for six weeks.. ? darn)

I straightened my hair, and the curls went back after I showered. smile.gif It's a bit harder to keep it straight though. Towards the end of the day, my hair starts curling up again.

Just take care of your hair as usual. If you go to a good salon, it shouldn't be that damaging at all. All I do is deep condition once a week and go for my usual trims. If your hair tends to be frizzy, use some leave-in conditioner while scrunching your hair.

Edit: Decent picture of my perm now. Hope you can see it! >_<

what exactly is a digital perm??

Digital perms uses electrolysis to perm your hair.

Japanese perms uses just rollers and lotions to break down your hair structure.

In short, u use a machine for digital perm. Your hair are curled through rods.

Japanese perms uses rollers. there are different sizes hair rollers and if your hairdresser is a good one, he will use different sizes for different areas of your hair.

Japanese perms are more suited for ppl with fine hair. Digital perms are will be used for ppl who has thick coarse hair, or who have done alot of treatment to their hair.

Those with rebonded hair will definitely go for digital perm, because they require a stronger perm to reverse the rebonded process.

(rebonded = straightening your hair through chemical process)

Japanese perms are less permanent than digital perms, but give a more natural look. In General, Japanese perms last 3-4 months, and digital perms last 6 months.

You PERM your hair before u Dye your hair.
And if you are planning to do both, it is advisable to tell your hairdresser so that she can adjust the amount of lotion to put and strength of your perm. Depending on situations, you can do both (perm and dye) in one setting, or she/he will ask u to spilt the perming and dyeing into 2 visits.

Japanese perms require more maintainence as compared to digital perm because it is less damaging to your hair. it's softer and more natural (I'm repeating myself blink.gif )

A good hairstylist will automatically know which perm to give you by judging your hair texture and condition. there is actually no need to tell them what sort of perm u wanna do sweatingbullets.gif
