TK Arrested

On November 4th, Tetsuya Komuro, former producer of Namie Amuro, was arrested on suspicion of fraud by selling the copyright to songs he wrote, but did not own. Some of these songs included Amuro’s largest single success, “CAN YOU CELEBRATE?” which sold over 2 million copies and remains the largest selling single released by a solo female singer. Because of Komuro’s arrest two new releases by globe, his group with wife KEIKO and writing partner MARC, have been cancelled. Radio stations across Japan as well as USEN karaoke services have banned the airing of Komuro’s music and as of the November 5 it has been confirmed that this includes music that Komuro produced for other artist. For the time being, radio stations will stop playing music by Namie Amuro, Tomomi Kahala, TRF and all other Komuro associated artist.

Since Komuro’s arrest, several of those close to him have made statements. However, VISION FACTORY the management company of Namie Amuro and Alisa Mizuki, who at one time was also produced by TK, released a statement to the press that neither artist wish to comment regarding the arrest of their former producer.

In a new poll which surveyed 20,000 people about who their favorite artist was, Namie Amuro came in at #7. She makes a dramatic 14 place jump from last year’s poll that found the artist at #21. Of the artist listed in the top 20, she makes the most significant jump second only to EXILE who came in at #13 this year after jumping 16 places. Filling up the positions higher than Amuro are Utada at #1, Kubokuro #2, aiko at #3, Mr.Children at #4, Dreams Come True at #5 and Southern All Stars at #6.

For those who don't know about the Kohaku issue:

Namie Amuro along with Southern All Stars, Hikaru Utada, B’z and Mariya Takeuchi were all in discussions with organizers behind this year’s Kouhaku Utagassen but negotiations with each artist yielded no results and none of them will appear on this year’s show. Amuro has appeared on the program a total of ten times, once as a backup dancer for singer Hiroko Moriguchi in 1993 and as a solo artist from 1995 to 2003. In 2004, she was offered an invitation to the program but refused to participate.

In actual appearance news, SPEED who reunited this summer will take part in this year’s festivity. It will be their first appearance on the show since 1999. Appearing on the show for the first time ever will be Mr.Children, who like Amuro, refused several offers before agreeing to appear on this year’s show.

According to chunichi.co.jp, namie will not be appearing on this year 'ＮＨＫ紅白歌合戦' (Kouhaku Utagassen). Namie refused to appear in Kouhaku since 2004 and usually spent her new year eve overseas or with her son.

'BEST FICTION' recently won the 'Best Album' award from the 50th Japan Record Awards. Namie won the same award 12 years ago with 'SWEET 19 BLUES'! The award ceremony will be held on the 30th and aired on TBS networks, but it is still unconfirmed whether namie will attend the ceremony.
