hey everyonee -- does anyone need a homecoming dress or like a "little black dress"? i bought this for a winter formal last year but i didn't get to wear it since i had a conflict.. and i kinda really need to get it off my hands because i'm now a size 0, not a size 6 anymore so obviously it doesn't fit ! haha ^^ if youre interested, its a size 6 bcbg dress.. it can fit anyone from a size 4 to like a size 8. it still has all its tags on it and everything & is completely brand new. i got it for $300 but i'm selling it for $110 + shipping. & im whitelisted, no blacklists pics! http://pageantresale.com/sitebuilder/image...il1-134x316.jpg i have the same dress!! i love it hmmm...i need to go buy my homecoming dress soon.... |

is a short dress + a pair of boots appropriate for prom? Boots, not appropriate. Unless you want to be different. A girl last year at the formal wore an amazing red dress but when it came to her feet she wore chucks T_T As for a short dress, depends on how short though. I'm wearing a short dress for my formal. Goes past just my knees. I hate long dresses -------------------- |

Haha okay, bumping! I'm a senior in high school and I'm going to my first dance in about a month =\ It's our school's midwinter dance, which obviously isn't as big a deal as prom - but it's still a pretty big deal! I think I want a dress that's maybe about knee length~ give or take a few inches, and either white or black (although I'm open to other colors too). I also want something with straps... spaghetti strap would be fine.
Any suggestions? I'm 5'7 and ~ 120 pounds if that would factor into what kind of dress to buy? I know absolutely nothing about buying dresses - I have exactly 1 dress in my closet and I bought it years ago with my mom at Target |

No offense to the lovely ladies on this forum who are going to prom, homecoming, etc., but I think drag queen whenever I see dresses that are frequently advertised on prom dress sites. The reason why I think drag is because the dresses are tacky. Yes, they are grand. Yes, they are beautiful in the way that you desperately wanted a dress to be beautiful when you were five years old; but let's face it, there is no way anyone can wear a giant star burst of rhinestones under their boobs and look anywhere near sophisticated--unless you were a gay man in drag and then that'd probably be as sophisticated as you were willing to get. Of course, it's arguable that prom and other high school dresses are not the locations for sophistication. Honestly, I didn't look too sophisticated when I went to prom; but what I wore still beat the ass hugging hot pink number my best friend wore. I couldn't imagine having to wear my prom dress or any of the prom dresses typical of these types of threads out into the public after graduating high school, and that's probably one of the reasons why girls opt for the cheap prom dress: it's not like you'll ever get away with wearing something that tragic any time after high school.
But, if I could recommend this to the girls here, if you buy a really beautiful and elegant-looking dress that you could actually wear out into the light of day after you turned 21 and not be laughed back into the house, then you'd probably be making a pretty good investment. Let's face it, every girl will probably have to own an evening gown in her life: whether it's for dating those rich bachelors or becoming a concert pianist or having the misfortune of being forced to attend an opera: a girl needs an evening gown. But let's also face it: evening gowns, good ones that don't embarrass you, don't come cheap. I'd venture a really decent evening gown will not cost less than 150 dollars and can definitely go up to 2,000 dollars. Yes, it can be a huge investment. No, I'm not rich. But if it's your senior prom and you've got no other ridiculously formal dances to attend with people who will know you've been wearing the same gown twice, I'd definitely suggest a splurge on something classic, simple, sophisticated, elegant, and flattering. http://www.shopbop.com/handkerchief-gown-j...gory-shopbysize http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2965302/0~2376...6014150&P=1 http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2938522/0~2376...6014150&P=1 http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2999455/0~2376...6014150&P=1 http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3011040/0~2376...6014150&P=2 http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2985461/0~2376...6014150&P=3 http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2971577/0~2376...6014150&P=4 -------------------- |

Thank you for all the help/suggestions! The second dress is pretty much the most beautiful dress I have ever seen. Over my budget though, haha. What colors generally look good on people with dark-ish skin. Not like super dark, but...more tan? IDK. |

IDK. you're welcome! you can always try to find a similar, cheaper alternative XD but since it's only a winter formal, you can wait to go all out for prom generally i think colors like red (not bright bright red, nor dark, dark red haha), olive-ish green (not too dark), bright orange (if you can pull it off - but it's generally better with darker skin), purple, and the blue that i have on my dress, heh. you can't really tell from the pictures but i'm pretty naturally tan so i tried to look for some brighter colors as well. -------------------- |
