I'm confused about the members' ages. Why do they always say that they are older than they really are? There are a couple of reasons for this. First of all, there is a difference between Korean age and Western age. In Korea, the moment you are born, you are considered to be 1 years old. Also, although Koreans celebrate birthdays on the date of their birth like Western folks, traditionally you don't actually turn a year older on your birthday, but rather everyone turns a year older on New Year's Day. The second reason is that those born in early parts of the year are considered the same age as those born the previous year due in part due to the Lunar Calendar, but mainly due to the Korean school year which starts in early spring. If you were born in the early part of a year, you would have been placed in the same grade level as those who were born the previous year and thus would have been classmates/friends. In SuJu, these are the groupings by the same age: 1) Eeteuk (83), Heechul (83), Hankyung (early 84) 2) Yesung (84), Kangin (early 85) 3) Shindong (85), Sungmin (early 86) 4) Eunhyuk (86), Donghae (86), Shiwon (early 87) 5) Ryeowook (87), Kibum (87), Kyuhyun (early 88) As you can see, it really isn't a matter of difference in age by days or months, but more their school grades. Eunhyuk is only 3 months younger than Sungmin, but he calls Sungmin "hyung" while Donghae is 6 months younger than Eunhyuk, but they are considered "friends." Shiwon whose real birthday is April 7, 1986 and whose registered birthday is February 10, 1987 is still in the same age group and thus "friends" with Eunhyuk and Donghae, regardless of which of the two birthdays you take into account. In Korea, the term "friend" does not necessarily only denote being close to someone, but rather being the same age as them. Thus, even though the members are very close to each other, most of them aren't considered "friends," but rather close "hyung/dongsaeng." What are the Super Junior living arrangements? When Super Junior was first formed, all members of Super Junior lived together. However, due to the sheer number of members, in early 2006, they moved into 2 separate dorms (apartments) in 2 separate buildings that were within 5 minutes of each other (they weren't able to get 2 apartments in the same building). At that time, Heechul, Kibum, Hankyung, and later Jay (Typhoon) from Trax when he returned from Japan lived in one dorm; The rest of the SuJu members (excluding Shiwon who moved back to his parents' house) lived in another. In the smaller dorm, Heechul got his own room, Hankyung shared a room with a manager, and Kibum shared his room with Jay. The bigger dorm's roommates changed often, but at one time or another most have probably been roommates of one another, especially since some rooms had 4 to a room. Then in September 2007, the leases on the Super Junior dorms ended and weren't renewed due to all the noisy fans who were disturbing the neighbors so they moved to 2 new dorms across the river, but this time more spacious dorms in the same building. 5 members of Super Junior live in one dorm on the 11th floor while 5 members live in another dorm on the 12th floor. 5 members on the 11th floor: Yesung and Ryeowook share the biggest room, Sungmin and Kyuhyun share a room, and Eunhyuk has his own room. The other room(s) are occupied by managers. 5 members on the 12th floor: Initially, Heechul and Eeteuk shared the biggest room, Donghae and Shindong shared a room, and Hankyung had his own room. But in early 2008, they switched rooms and now Heechul and Hankyung each have a room of his own while Eeteuk and Donghae share a room and Shindong shares a room with a manager. Shiwon lives nearby with his parents. Kibum either live with family/relatives or by himself nearby. Kangin currently lives by himself nearby, but plans to move in with his parents at the end of July 2009 (Park Myung Soo's Date at 2PM 6/17/09). VII. About Radio/TV Shows What does Bora mean? In order to listen/view radio or TV shows on MBC where both Shimshim and ChinChin airs, you need a membership at imbc.com. To join imbc, click here. Check the two "I agree" buttons and sign up as "Foreigner Living in Abroad." Everything is in English so you shouldn't have any problems signing up. BTW "Call Number" means phone number. You should sign up way before the actual date of the show that you want to listen to since they say that "Registration by overseas users may require additional time because of the validation process." Once you are a member of imbc, on the left hand top corner of the Shimshim webpage or ANY imbc.com webpage, you should see a button that says "ON-AIR." If you hover over it, you will see a dropdown menu. Click on "표준FM." OR if the show is Bora, you can scroll down to the bottom of the page where you will see and click on it. You will need to download Active X for the playercue program (only needs to be done once). Once the player starts, they will air a few minutes of commercials and buffer for a bit. ChinChin and Shimta are not viewable for the fans and even when they come in and leave, we can barely see them or not at all. M4U and Chunji were awesome though. Too bad it's over. Most of the TV show music programs needs a ELF member card to get in, if you don't you can be in another waiting line, but you will only come in if there's enough place (and they don't always allow foreigners, western or asian, Koreans come first.) Don't even try if it's holidays in Korea ^^; Just an advice. You can't borrow your friend's card because they ask your fanclub card and your ID card. M!Countdown is the only one which doesn't need fanclub cards, it's just about going there and wait in the Suju fans line. The ones that don't say (Bora) are pre-recorded. VII. About Logistics How do I convert Korean time to my timezone? WorldTimeServer is pre-set for Korean time so all you need to do in order to find correct time in your timezone is to set the time and date according to Korean time and click on "Submit." From there, select your timezone location from the dropdown menu. When I go onto some Super Junior related websites, all I get is a bunch of gibberish. What does that mean? That means your computer setting is disabled to read Korean. See below on how to read/write Korean characters. How can I read/write Korean characters on my computer?
