hi~I wanna ask ur opinions on fans..

i don really like some fans who are always so defensive abt their fav artists...one comment and they will bashed u like we just cursed them..

i mean fans can b very good cos they support their artists but wat about those who r too over till they seemed like they r controlling their artists?

i wan to hear ur thoughts of fans..both positive and negatives.. XD

Ooh I have a feeling this is gonna be a controversial thread.

Generally, I'm fine with fans. I'm not fine with obsessive fans. Being a fan doesnt entitle you to bash others just because they find flaw in your favourite artistes. That's hypocrite.

Positively, I admire the dedication these fans put into expressing their love for their favourite artistes. It's hard to find fans who support their idols rain or shine.

On the other side, it irks me tremendously when a rabid fan bash others endlessly in the name of protecting their idols and to make their idols look good. That's just rubbish. I cant stand fans who are possessive either.

I guess there are pros and cons on being a fan. It's up to them to choose whether they want to be a supportive fans who love them unconditionally and are able to see things from both side, or to be a rabid fan who puts a bad name to their idol.

Oh boy, this thread sure will be controversial.

I am a fan. Not an obsessive/possessive one though.
But yes, I am the type to get defensive when people bash my
favorite artists. I don't mind if they point out a small flaw or mistake
but bashing the artists to no end and even giving out lame
reasons for their bashing just gets to me. It irritates me and
makes me mad. But no, I won't start arguments with the people who
bash on my beloved artists, I'll just roll my eyes at them and
mutter curses in front of my computer. LOL.

On the bright side, I respect and admire fans who put so much effort on
supporting their idols. Seeing their endless love and support
for their favorite artists just makes me feel touched and happy.

Fans are cool, but when they're obsessive and that's all they talk about... and if they'd risk a friendship just for that artist/band/whatever, then there's just a line. o_O I don't like the ones who try to convert you... like honestly, lol.

Positives?

Fans vary from those who do not keep up to date with their favorite artists, to those who update themselves daily about certain artists, to those who will waste all their money and time on someone they do not even know. I admire those who put into the effort of doing stuff like putting projects together to remind their idols (or whatever they call them) that they are important to them. People have different outlets when it comes to releasing their stress (i.e. watch funny clips of their favorite bands) and it is just a form of entertainment. Media is all over the place, so it is only normal for girls and boys to swoon over someone who is attractive and/or talented on screen. It is pretty much impossible for anyone to say that they are not a fan of any celebrity (as in not liking one at all).

Negatives?

It mostly applies to those who are too obsessed for their own good. Sure, liking celebrities are okay, but not to the point where you feel like you will die if they do something stupid like getting into a scandal (and killing whoever he or she was involved in the scandal with). From my perspective, going to such an extent where you will spend your money on doing stuff like sending your favorite celebrities some gifts should not be like a monthly task. Celebrities are merely humans, too, so they should be treated like one. Some of them are in the business merely for the sake of popularity and money, but there are those who are respectful to their fans because being a singer/actor/actress is their dream. As for those who bash others for statements against their fans, it is okay to get defensive if stupid stuff is being spread around, or if the person just bashes them and thinks they are right. However, everyone has their own likes and dislikes, so in order to avoid the whole "I hate you because you bashed my (name)." If you know someone who dislikes a certain celebrity or group that you admire, just don't mention about them to your friend. They should respect your interests and do the same to avoid the sake of getting heated up over nothing.

I don't think it is bad to be a fan because everybody is a fan of something or someone. But, of course it's irritating if people bash on other people's interests just because it doesn't suit them. People should just respect each others tastes. At least be civil, lol.

Their are so many obsessive fans in Soompi. Their so blinded that whatever their idol wear or does it's cool when it's obvious it's hideous and bad. The one I really don't like are those who start topics over the smallest thing, like have you notice this or that looks sad? and everyone starts saying how sweet and stuff

I am the type of fan who buys the idols' albums and find time to watch videos or dramas. But I'm also the kind to openly admit that my idols have flaws. I don't see any of my idols as being perfect so it's okay for me to hear constructive criticism about them. But criticism gets out of hand, then yeah, I will get defensive.

I'm not okay with anyone who resembles that crazy woman who claims to be Andy Lau's biggest fan and "so-called" wife. That's going way too far.

cause when theyre in that craze, they look at the specific group or w.e as being perfect package.

Yes, like everyone else, I despise obsessive fans.
Especially those SuJu fans that made that poor girl suicide. Well, it wasn't just them. It was also girls from their school.
But still.
Obsessive fans = NO.
I mean, it's cool if you're a fan. I'm a fan.

And when they get so angry and defensive if you state your opinion, if it's negative.

I don't like the over-obsessive fans either (i.e. the ones who are willing to kill you/flame you).
If they just admire the artist and like listening to their music or watching their dramas/movies, it's fine.

it depends on what you comment actually. if you're gonna say something bad (mock them, say their singing/dancing/acting/wtv is bad) about their favorite artist in their turf well of course expect to be attacked by their fans.

but not all fans (obsessive or not) are like that. i think i'm an obsessed fan and i don't go around bashing people who say something bad about my favorite artist... well yeah, i may bash that person in my head but i don't, say, reply to his/her comment on the artist's thread. i'd go all defensive and sway the conversation away from that direction.... i like to linger on happy happy thoughts

I don't like fans who can't accept criticism of their favourite artists, are too obsessive and narrow minded. I just saw a bunch of fanbashing online and it makes me cringe. It makes me not want to listen to that artist because I'm going to be associated with those people.

but now I'm at the point where I'm starting to not really care what other people think. I listen to music for me and no one else. Though I have to admit hyping stuff makes things more attractive.

Obsessive fans will defend that artist/musician no matter what and probably use violence lol
And fans will defend that artist/musician to some extent

I'm not sure if this should go, so I'm putting it up in general.

One day, my dad came to our Canadian home from Korea (he lives in Korea)
and we were talking... he mentioned that one of his friends' sons have become a celeb.
I wasn't really interested, I mean, a its a guy, right? But my lil sister was jumping up and down.
"Who? Who is he?" she yelled, and my dad told her, "Choi... Choi Shi... hes in some big ass boy band..."

My sister has been the biggest fan of Choi Shi Won (did I get that right? the manly dude from Super Junior?) ever since Super Junior came out.

So my sister goes insane, and my dad tells her that if she gets into this program in university
(which I was in) then he will take her back to Korea and get her to meet him.

So time passes, she gets into my program with exceptional achievement
(our program in unique in Canada cuz it has entrance exam... and she was one of top 10 or something out of 1500+ people who wrote the exam)
so she goes to Korea, and my dad is like "I'll call my friend up and set up a time and date for you to meet him."
Guess what my sister says? She doesn't want to meet him!

Her answer was like this:
"This is going to be my first time meeting him, and I want to leave a good first impression. However, at the moment I am an ugly little girl. After I get a good job and make lots of money, I'll get plastic surgery and then meet him. That way, I can leave a great first impression as a beautiful and successful woman."

(I read about Lee Sung Gi concert and was gonna get her a ticket so she can go see it, and she said exactly the same thing: "I wanna leave a good first impression blah blah blah")

And I was like OMGWTFBBQ

girls... too complicated...

p.s. I didn't know it was so easy to see celebs in Korea lol... I worked in Korea this summer and the office was like 2 min walk from KBS building... seeing celebs play basketball in the park, have guerilla concerts in front of our office, see drama being shot in front of our office building... (a movie was shot in our office too, a movie called Some like it Hot or something)
