![]() Hi! I really want a few simple pairs of rubber flip flops. I used to hate these, especially since this fad in 2005-2006 that took over my middle school and spread like wildfire. Girls would get the bright colored ones from Old Navy or Abercrombie. However, I got a pair with a design last year from H&M on sale for $1. And they're so comfortable, and I wear them around home or when I'm out for a short time. The design faded off and it doesn't look TOO pretty, but as undurable as it is, it's lasted me so long. I bet they're similar to the Old Navy pairs, only those probably have more rubber. So now I want a pair to chill around in, because if I wore a less common shoe I'd probably care about maintaining it. I think my personal verdict would be to get the Old Navy shoes since these shoes aren't all that fashionable to me anyways. Now onto the comparison: Apparently Havaianas are "indestructable" and "comfortable", with exception to some people's reviews I've seen here. Other pros would be that your feet don't sink in and embed their prints into the soles, and they don't retain odors. Also, they have better traction than most flip flops so you won't slip as much. Also, it is "fashionable" and simple. Make the investment for it? Old Navy flip flops sink, may snap, and are pretty much like Styrofoam. For some, they are lasting, though they may get easily deformed. However, they're cheap and still maintain the same look as Havaianas. And I mean, dirt cheap! EDIT: Also, Old Navy's flip flop used to be more Styrofoam-like according to -- CRYSTAL., but as they advertise, they have a "New Flip Flop". You may find the link below. They're made of 92% synthetic materials, 8% rubber, compared to Havaianas, which are 100% rubber top. Cons for both may be the blisters it causes, but that goes for most specific shoe shapes that don't go accordingly to people's foot shapes. Links To Online Stores, compare prices: Havaianas found at Gap, also found at many other stores, here they're $18 but there are more variations and designs 100% rubber top http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=4...;scid=660470032 dELiA*s also carries them, but here they're $19.50 http://store.delias.com/item.do?itemID=513...mp;brandFilter= Old Navy New Flip Flops, made of 92% synthetic materials, 8% rubber $3.50->$1.65 each for 3 ~ $5 http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?c...;scid=522173332 New Flip Flops, made of 92% synthetic materials, 8% rubber metallic version $6.50->$5 http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?c...;scid=522932022 American Eagle Rubber flip flops $14.50 or $10 each for 2 http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp?c...uctId=0417_2278 PVC Solid flip flops $14.50 or $10 each for 2 http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp?c...uctId=0417_2230 Aerie rubber flip flops, similar to first AE pair $9.50 http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp?c...tId=prod4560031 --------- What would you prefer? To invest in Havaianas, buy a moderately priced pair, or several cheap pairs? What do you have already, or wish you had gotten instead? EDIT: I notice people are mentioning Rainbows, which I recall specializes in hemp shoes. I don't think they make shoes of this style, though, so I'm excluding them from this topic. Thanks for contributing to the thread! & thank you Bunny for the input about the Old Navy sale! -------------------- Swing forth, swing back.

old navy changed their flip flop material. it's not that styrofoam stuff anymore. i actually prefer them over my havaianas because the latter is just too stiff and loose on my small feet.

Because I guess they make them more durable now, considering there's now 8% rubber and most people used to complain that they used to be Styrofoam-like. Thanks for letting us know about the promotion! -------------------- Swing forth, swing back.

havaianas are the only ones I wear/stick by.
Though it is also because I was able to get them cheaper (approx $10CND) I did have the new pair of the ON ones, cause they weren't the foam ones...but I find that the Havaianas are better on my feet. Better grip, and I find that it fits my feet better, whereas the ON ones, in the same size, would be looser on my feet, in regard to the strap part. I personally am trying to stay as much away from flip flops this year, mainly due to pain in the heels and joint issues that can occur when wearing flats >_< I doubt I will last long though, seeing as I do love wearing them! -------------------- blog of scribbles | Status Shop Updated January.05.2010 Toronto SHOP: BCBGenerationUO|Stila|Benefit|Stila|Nailpolish |

You should try J Crew's rubber flip flops. I bought 3 pairs from them, and they're the most comfiest flip flops I've ever owned and they've lasted me for about 2-3 years(and still going). But back to your question, I prefer Havaianas over Old Navy. Although I haven't tried Old Navy's "new" flip flops yet, I think Havaiana's are really comfy.

i have like 8 pairs of havaianas but from diff stores
and idk if it's just me or w/e but i think they differ in comfort like the ones from athletes world aren't as comfy as the ones i just got from aritzia ... they're deff worth it though i wear flip flops everywhere in summer and these don't wear down like the ones from a&f -------------------- |

I'd get the old navy ones because they're cheaper and I don't really care about being comfy whatsoever. --------------------

I have two pairs of Havaianas. One I got as a gift and another one I bought for about $11 on sale. They're comfy and I wear them to most in the summer. The one I got as a gift I've had for over a year and I wore them so much the printed design is faded but I'm not surprised because I wear them EVERYWHERE

i'm loving old navys new flips flops compared to the ones from a few years back! i think the shape is pretty it makes your feet look slimmer and they're super comfortable. i used buy like 10 at a time but now i only get the black, white, grey, brown usually. i never tried havaianas but i found them here for like $13! maybe i'll get a pair this year plus the old navy ones this saturday for $1
i have been using my hollister flips flops for about 3 or 4 years now and they're still in good condition! http://www.shopbop.com/solid-flip-flop-hav...ogle-HAVAI10023 -------------------- |

I got 2 pairs of Old Navy's "NEW" Flip flops and I must say compared to their old ones these ones are AWESOME. Extremely durable and very comfortable. Unlike their old ones they don't leave imprints anymore and they're just like how I bought them a year ago (:

Havaianas are pretty comfy. As for Old Navy ones, I haven't tried their "new" ones, but their older ones didn't last that long. But I actually hate rubber flipflops. I just think they're tacky. Invest in a pair of Rainbows. Comfy & stylish (imo at least).

Havaianas flip flops are really really comfortable! So I'd say go with those.
Just a side note though, I have a pair of Old Navy flip flops from 8th grade...and I'm now in 12th and they're still perfectly fine. I wear them a lot every year as well... -------------------- |

DEFINITELY havianas
sure, its more expensive, but it's so worth it they're SO COMFORTABLE, and they last forever for me, old navy flip flops last like 2 weeks before they get all ragged and i throw them out i've been using the same havainas for almost 3 yrs now, and they're still perfectly brand new it's so worth the investment |

I'd choose Old Navy, I have a pair of black ones and they lasted all last summer. I'd recommend The North Face sandals, they're pretty thick and comfy and I got them for like $5.
