QUOTE (cowboy @ May 29 2006, 04:54 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
i noticed i tend to "grind" my teeth at night.
not all the time. but sometimes.
i pretty much just clench my jaw really tight all night long
and when i wake up in the morning my teeth are sore.

my bf says its dangerous and i should go see dentist.
he also says alot of the times its stress related.

anyone have this problem?

Have you ever tried using a mouth/night guard? You might want to check one out from an online provider. I personally purchased one from TotalGard online. Other companies cost to much money for a simple night guard. Keep me posted

I have that problem! Mostly because my jaws aren't aligned. My orthodontist is getting me mouth guards so I stop grinding down my teeth. I've basically ground away my canine teeth so the tips are gone and the enamel is gone, and my teeth in the back are kinda ground down too D:

You should definitely go get a mouth guard!

I grind my teeth as well when I sleep.
And I only found out it might be a problem when my dentist told me.
Also he told me to buy a mouth guard as well.
Well, I bought one and tried to use it a couple times, but I find that I wake up the next morning
and it's either somewhere between my sheets or on my bedroom floor. ewww. I know.
So I don't use it anymore. Not bad to try a mouth guard though.
Always give more then you take.

I think we've come to the conclusion that grinding your teeth is very bad and you should keep a mouth guard in at night.

It does wear down your teeth and you could get to the point where you grind your teeth until you HAVE no teeth.

People who are addicted to methamphetamine (Crystal Meth) grind their teeth 24/7 hence their terrible grounded teeth.

i was watching a japanese health show and they talked about this
and they showed an example of a person that would grind their teeth so hard
that the pressure of it was like 40kg which is like 99lbs(it might have been more i dont remember)
and you can hear the grinding when they are sleeping
they also did a test with famous guests on the show where they
made them sleep with a simple plastic mouth guard and the next day they looked at it, there were rips and tears all over it
and a reason why your teeth grind is because your teeth are not aligned, so when you bite down/close your mouth
your teeth are in the wrong places causing your jaws to become crooked and you grind when you sleep
and eventually it wears out the "cushion" of your jawbones, thus making it hurt when you open your mouth wide to eat
it starts hurts a lot and your cheeks get puffy and the only way to help it is to get braces
again this is on a severe case of bruxism
