Finally got a some free down time...

Her performance was amazing at the Descendants of Dragon Concert. She looked confident, not hesitant or nervous and plus she looked great. Not too fond of the frilly skirt, but glad to see some color and not black this time. It's really such a change compared to her previous outfits while promoting "Timeless" and "Y" where she was all covered up.. now she's showing some skin. Funny the articles talk about her flawless legs than her perf. X] lol. But it was great event to gain exposure and getting herself known more in China. There's no denying that she owned it. Thanks for all the beautiful pictures & fancams videos. ^^

aww you can really tell that she is loving every second of that performance and being on that stage. her eyes were so expressive during the song too, i think she knew this has to be the best performance she gives and boy oh boy did she deliver.
this is such an honour and i just wanna see jackie chan and shake his hand to say thank you for recognising talent

OMG. Her expression at 1:35 makes me think as if she's loving every single moment of her performance. It felt like she was singing slowly on purpose so she can soak up the atmosphere. Because seriously, omg, 70,000 people watching you at once. Then maybe add a few people on cellphones at the time, so that's even more people. And then the concert being recorded and shown in Hong Kong, Beijing, international CCTV channels etc. ;___; I am so proud of her. Then 1:54, when she made her high note super long and super strong, omfg. She's been practising. She's been improving like whoa. OMFG. I now know everybody was all spazzing at how amazing her performance was because wowzers, her high notes. ♥ After 1:54, you could tell too that she was fighting hard not to crack while trying to take a breath. Then at 2:54, you can hear someone go "Who was that?" too. GUH~~ You're 70,000+ people more famous, Liyin-sshi.

But the best thing about this performance was that, she didn't look or sound nervous at all.

I don't know how to explain how I feel now.
I mean, Ri In used to be really nervous on stage when there's alot of people.
But this, is 70 000 plus people! And she did SO well, she doesn't even look nervous!!

i agree. her improvements, i think, is directly related to more practicing and her softening her r&b style. now, "i will" straight out sounds like a pop song - which isn't a bad thing. considering now that her tone and musical style has assimilated into the way chinese music is presented. butttt - nonetheless, i would love for her to come back with her r&b style. but we'll maybe leave that until her korean comeback!

anyways, i actually quite like the outfit, love the hair + she looks healthy-slim!

her confidence is magic now! singing in front of such a large crowd. very much proud of her!

Since I only became a fan of Jang Ri In last year July.
Weird timing, I know. But recently, I've gotten confused about Ri In's past.
Ok, since it's a past, we shouldn't really go and dig, but I really hope to know.

The chinese is weird, so I'll just do a rough translation.

Translations:

9 July 2003, reporting from Sichuan -> 13 year old, JinJin (It's a fake name, cause DR Music doesn't want her real name to be known). Last year end (2002), she signed a contract with one of three the biggest Korean Record company, DR Music. It's a 10 year contract. And she became a junior of Korea's most famous Girl Group, Baby VOX.

Then it says, JinJin's parents are both violinist, JinJin loves singing since young. Year 2001, JinJin joined a singing competition. September 2002, she went through auditions with DR Music at 10 big cities at China, finally signing a contract with DR Music.

March 2003, JinJin went to Beijing with her mother to go through training and started learning Korean. Korea side said that they would spend 500 000RMB on her 1st album this year.

Hm... I thought there was rumours before she was in SM as a trainee, she was in a different company... someone I think mentioned DSP Entertainment? I'm not sure, so no one take me seriously, but I remember a couple pages back there was talk that the company was going to take legal action since she terminated her contract with them? It was all speculation so don't believe any of this. I should look back through the thread and try to find the discussion ^^;;

Is it just me or does her make up look like it was done by a Korean make-up artist? I'm so used to the make up style of another *certain* girlgroup from SM that when I look at JRI's pics from the concert, it looks like SM got a Korean make up artist to do her face up. Her mascara is applied in a way that's smooth and thick but can still see the crease of her eyelid (and the way it ends in a point), there's white/silver eye shadow at the inner corners of her eyes, her skin looks super pale with just a hint of blush... Maybe this is a sign SM is actually *trying* in terms of her appearance? She has new clothes! lol

As for her new singing style, is it just me or is she way more natural singing in this smooth, more Chinese 'balladeer' voice than American-influenced R&B? I love how much easier it is for her to smoothly transition into the high notes instead of forcing it from her throat, which makes her voice sound almost gutteral at times (her old Y performances is a prime example). I feel like SM slapped an R&B label on her because her voice has the potential for it, but somewhere along the way they just couldn't train her to become an R&B singer the way they imagined or she just isn't fit for that style and now she's trying for a more sweet, smooth style which still retaining the core of what makes her voice unique? I feel like that's a much better recipe for her in that she effortlessly sings I Will all the way through while we NEVER saw that from her when she sang it in the original R&B style!

I don't know, some part of me hopes she sticks with this. I want her to always be as comfortable as she was on stage that night and be as effortless in singing her songs. Not doing R&B all the time doesn't take away from her talent; in fact it seems to hold her back more than keep pushing her forward and improving =\ I remember back when I followed her really closely, I'd notice improvements through 2008 but one bad perf would dash my hopes away and I started having doubts as to whether she can really sing as well as I'd hoped she could - which perplexed me, because it was clear she COULD sing and had immense talent for it, but for some reason she had so much difficulty pulling off good lives!

So all in all, I'm very impressed and would like her to continue this style into her next album. =) I think ultimately it will be beneficial for her (as long as SM chooses some good songs -o-).

Ah, now that you've pointed it out, her singing does sound smoother in this new version. I like it too. It sounds more fluid, like you said, smoother... But I hope that for her next album, she'll have a nice balance of both styles. Perhaps that's why practically all the songs from her first album sounded the same. She was using the same style of singing? Idk. There would be more variety if they used both... I just wish for her second album to come sooooon. And if her makeup artist did change for this event, then DAMN STRAIGHT, this is such a prestigious event, that I'm personally all for good productive changes. I've seen some very pretty SNSD makeup in their pictures (though in some they looked too pale that their faces and bodies were different colours... D: Though, I don't think Liyin would have that problem, she's pale as it is, rofl.) 8DDD

Still, all the recent improvements and changes to her songs just show that she's been undergoing serious training for the past what, ten months? She's been going on-and-off hiatus since September (August even, if you think about it), and we know that she underwent dance training from her super awesome Korean "Buttons" teacher back in October or November, sooo I wouldn't be too surprised if she's been having vocal training (for her second album!!! ;____;) too.

It feels comfortable listen to her sing 'I Will' at Jackie Chan concert, it's nice, smooth and breath-taking.

I'm actually in a dilemma, well, I like her way of singing for Y(Why...), I don't really like too much falsetto.
