Does anybody know any good Korean heavy metal bands?
Izzie
I think you'll get more response in the underground forum.
sorry I don't really know one that's good

Heavy metal is huge in every Asian country. There's a Korean band called Blackhole that adds everyone on MySpace. http://www.blackholemetal.com

If you can handle metalcore or hardcore, try Vassline first:

http://www.vassline.com

If you can handle tough-guy skinhead hardcore, try Samchung and Knockdown.

http://www.samchung.org

http://www.knockdown2000.com

There's also plenty of great grindcore and various other cores in Korea, but I think this is straying more away from your area of interest.

If you're more into newer style metal there are bands like Pia or Schizo. And there's Hollow Jan who kind of deftones-esque....not really metal persay, but heavier than a lot of other bands.
RACETRAITOR
Hollow Jan rule. I would call them screamo, but I've been wrong before.

If you like them, then I also recommend 49 Morphines, but I haven't seen them around lately.

Labels are labels...all that really matters in the end is weather or not they are good (which Hallow Jan is). Also thanks for the recomendation, I'll have to check out 49 Morphines.

Yeah, to too many Korean bands, a Daum Cafe is a website. I don't think they realise that foreigners can't join. We're out of luck.
internetwarfare
what is daum cafe anyways? like a blog?

No its a site...I cant think of an English site to compare it with.......They have news and....You know cyworld? They have clubs sort of like that. A lot of bands main page is their daum cafe, and you have to be Korean to sign up because you need a residence number

Figures.........I wish cyworld clubs were more popular so more bands would use THOSE clubs

I was under the impression that foreigners could join Daum services if they jumped through all sorts of hoops (mailing copies of passports and junk like that).

Or you can sign up as a child or something?

Anyway, its all a whole lot of work to join if either are true. I always thought eventually they would just let the rest of us register like other sites are doing.

I wouldn't bother to sign up for a kiddie account. Insulting.

I was trying to register on SayCast using my foreigner ID so I could join a friend's music chatroom, and it kept accusing me of being underage. So I gave up. If Koreans don't want us on their websites, I'm not going to go out of my way.

On the brighter side, it looks like Hanmail now allows foreigners to send e-mail to Hanmail accounts.

An equally good reason. But would you really want to post on message boards with a kid's account? It would seem a little condescending.

For quite a while, it was impossible to e-mail any Hanmail addresses from Hotmail. I also tried Yahoo and gMail. But it seems to work fine now.

There are all sorts of strange restrictions on the Internet here. Sometimes it is impossible to access Angelfire from inside Korea for months on end. I also had trouble with Dot.TK, no explanation ever given, and I know they worked for people in other countries.

Anyway...metal!

Yes...as for metal I remembered a couple other bands that metalheads may wish to check out.

There's Holymarsh and Niflheim which are both kind of death metal or doom metal or (insert some other word about distruction here) metal.

Niflheim can be found here: http://www.nifl-heim.net/
Holymarsh's website seems to be inopperational at present.

Imagine US music market. Even if Michael Jackson or Mariah Carey are (or were) there, there were also Metallica or Megadeth. Korea is similar. Just the problem is, Korean Metal group can't sell many as Metallica.

You'd better point WHAT KIND OF METAL BAND you want. Even if Korean scene is much smaller, there exist almost every kind of metal band.

mrkwang recommends Moonshine first, if you NEVER experienced any K-metal before.

uiyoltan
aww man I'm surprised no one has mentioned "Crash" yet.
Dachink
try N.EX.T smile.gif
internetwarfare
haha, i would have a BlackHole wallpaper if they werent so ugly. =D
uiyoltan
they may be ugly but I think that it's better to be ugly and make awesome music rather than look really good and make crap music. *cough*visualkei*cough*.

i didn't say anything.
internetwarfare
yeah thats true, but i love visual kei happy.gif lol.

Dude, spot on. I hate visualkei. If they want to dress up, then just dress up and get a real job....stop assulting me with sh*t music. Maybe take the money you use on make up and take music lessons...

I haven't heard of many metal bands. The only ones I'm familiar with are Crash and PiA (First album), but I haven't heard a song by either band that has amazed me.
LHS SkyHigh
My favorite:
Armageddon, Asiana, Baekdoosan, Dionysus, Foreign Legion, Gaia, Lee Hyun Suk (Guitarist, Instrumental), Little Sky, Newk, Sahara, Sinawe, Zihard

I skimmed through some bands mentioned earlier here but they seem to have expired since their websites are nonexistent? Probably since the posts are dated 2005 LOL

Originally posted in the 'Korean Rock Thread' but this topic title may be more appropriate...

I appologize in advanced for the all too repeditive question, but if I could get recomendations
based on my signature that would be great. The only korean rock band I know, and I use the word 'rock' loosely, is the TRAX but even they are way too light to my liking. I'm into heavy/experimental/rock and a bit of metal...

Interesting nu-rock/punk

The music reminds me of Korn and Linkin Park
While the vocals remind me of Aqua Timez and hide

Not exactly my cup of tea - any other suggestions besides Seo Taiji's earlier works?

If you can't stomach a guy who regurgitates godawful music like Korn and Linkin Park, there are plenty of underground bands that play a metal sound, already mentioned in this thread. You don't have to gravitate to the guy who sells posters of himself lying in a bed of rose petals (probably).

Well then, I shall continue my search.
Wish it was easier to find their music though: youtube and imeem aren't exactly efficient

Myspace is a good way to search. Most Korean metal bands maintain myspace pages with online songs you can hear.

I only just discovered there was such music as this outside of K-Pop and this is the band that's made my interest in Metal come back. biggrin.gif
