Green Day's American Idiot album. Their pissed off, rebellious teenager-like attempt at being political and controversial was extremely laughable.
As for underrated, uhh... Japanther's very obscure but they are awesome. I love shoegaze music like My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Ride, etc, that no one really talks about anymore.

Overrated:
Any songs by any of those untalented, undeservingly popular Fuse teenage emo or fake goth/hardcore bands, such as:
My Chemical Romance
Avenged Sevenfold
Panic! At the Disco
Fall Out Boy
AFI
Flyleaf
(recent) Green Day
All American Rejects
Three Days Grace
The Used (I like some of their old songs though)
Head Automatica(?)
Saosin or whatever the fck they're called.
Also System of a Down, Tool, Slipknot and Korn. Although I do like some of Korns songs for nostalgic purposes. But they all sound the same anyway.
I haven't listened to much rap or R&B since the 90's so I don't have much input, but I think all that "southern rap" (like Lil Jon) is annoying. You know, "UH. WHAT. *blah blah blah* WHAT. UH. UH.".
And Justin Timberlake has got to go.
Underrated:
TEAM SLEEP ;]
Really the only BAND I like I can think of that I can rightfully call underrated.
Refused, Slowdive, Regina Spektor and Sufjan Stevens have all grown on me as well.
I'd work on particular songs, but that'd take a while and I've already spent too much time on this thread. Team Sleep don't have THAT many songs anyway, so I'll just say all of them are underrated lol. *cough*blvd. nights*cough*tomb of liegia*cough*

Agreed w/Korn, I think I've been stuck on the Follow the Leader album and ignored anything after that. Then again, Korn / Limp Bizkit (aish) and uhh the whole Blink / Offspring thing all blew up around the same time in the 90s.
Other personal overrated annoyances:
Radio friendly trance / edm.

lol, you freak. I like them because I think they're a band you can rock out to without having to listen to sh*tty lyrics, you know? Not like Korn where I like rocking out to them occasionally but then I have to listen to lyrics like "You flirt with suicide, sometimes that's okay" and all that other whiny crap. I like what Refused sing about and I think they're honest about it. They don't complain about being a teenager and their parents not loving them or whatever.
And damnit, I know they got popular in 2000 when White Pony came out cause they were performing with bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit (gag) but I think most people don't appreciate Deftones for what they are. It's like they were "cool" when they were on MTV, and people lumped them into the same catergory with the bands I mentioned above, but they have 5 albums now, damnit and I bet those fkers only listened to one. My point is yes, I'm going to say Deftones are underrated as well. More people probably know who they are, but they aren't appreciated as they should be. No one writes lyrics like Chino. They're far (FAR) more artistic and creative then those.. other bands.

Exactly. Refused were about social and political issues. They didn't write about how much they hated high school or how misunderstood they felt just for being a teenager. Everyone's teen years suck, it's nothing new. A part of growing into adulthood is called "moving forward", I think a lot of these crap emo bands need to figure that one out.

radiohead's pretty underrated by the masses, although beloved by the critics. I hate it when people listen to muse, thinking they're innovative.
