Wateva, I don't want to turn this into a Beckham/Victoria bashing thread, but seriosuly, I was watching that contest clip, and I think David said about 6 different words. Thank God Hikki was there with her bubbly personality or I would've never bothered watching it.
I wonder what Hikki will release after Kiss & Cry, another ballad?
Personally, I wouldn't mind if she released ballads from now because I just adore her ballads too much.
I'm also in my sappy, depressed state so I want more of her songs to lift my spirit lol.

Utada Hikaru's English isn't perfect.
She has an accent, after all.
it sounds like she's trying very hard to have no accent...
i'm saying her english DOES NOT sound natural. it sounds like... someone who's trying to speak english but failing.
i mean her grammar and use of linguistics is good, just the actual verbal/speaking part is not good.
you guys say she's born in America. how long did she live there? her whole life, or just a little while?
and as for her japanese, being japanese... her japanese ain't that good either.
i think BoA's japanese is better than hers. at least BoA's accent is better than hers in Japanese...

There is no such thing as "no accent".
Her english sounds just fine.
Of course BoA's great in Japanese, but she isn't better than her.

her english sounds fine to me, it actually sounds better than fine
ive lived in ny my whole life and i slur my speech and according to out of staters, i have a "ny accent" so what would my english be considered? good or bad?
and i dont think theres "perfect" way to speak english

moovoodoll: Utada Hikaru is bilingual. i believe she was born in new york and she is completely fluent in english. i dont know how long she lived in japan or america but i believe she went back and forth a lot.
anyway so i dont really know about her having an accent cause i dont really hear it at all.
and unless youre completely fluent in the japanese language (and im talking formal and informal speech and all that) i wouldn't judge how 'good' her japanese accent is or try to compare it to boa's.
anyway. completely unrelated to that...
i heard somewhere (I DONT KNOW WHERE! >_< so dont believe this completely!) that she wants to/is going to release a 2nd album in the US thats more mainstream. and that her first one was for fun, like whatever she wanted to do type thing. i dont remember where i heard it so yeah... =P but i hope she does (:

Utada doesn't have any accent when she speaks English, except an American one.

What? Utada has bad English and Japanese? Where are you getting all your information from and what videos are you basing your review on? She was born and raised in NY for I believe...13-16 years (Not sure of the exact years), so her English is just like mine, completely Americanized. She was accepted into Columbia University, an ivy league college, they wouldn't accept just
anyone especially if she had "bad" English.
As for Japanese, there's no way that BoA could possibly have better Japanese than her considering Utada was raised speaking Japanese from
actual Japanese parents and not teachers.
There's still a lot of Japanese listeners who complain about BoA having a Korean accent, so I don't understand where your judgments are coming from

.
Glad this place moved a little though lol.

I guess you failed to listen to the entire Exodus album to hear her English.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMmu41UQHAsListen to her English and tell me that's mediocre.
She was born in 1983. She didn't move to Japan until late 1998.
That would've made her 15 years old, with fine English. Utada's Japanese is just fine, you're gonna compare a Japanese superstar artist who naturally knows Japanese to a Korean superstar artist who only knows the basics of what is given to her on a script and some translators? Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of BoA, but her music trails Utada in dominance by a long mile.

I just found out that "Beautiful World" will be the theme song for "Rebuild of Evangelion" and I'm soooo excited! I've been a fan of Neon Genesis: Evangelion for quite some time now (Haven't watched it in years, but I'm still a fan), so I'm happy that she'll be collaborating with the producers of the show again. Also, "Fly me to the Moon (In Other Words) -2007 MIX" will be used as the trailer's song.

“Beautiful World,” will be available for Chaku-Uta download beginning on July 23rd. Full length Chaku-Uta and Online downloads will commence on the single’s physical release date of August 29th. EMI Japan will probably release an online preview clip of Beautiful World most likely on July 23rd.
Don't you think that it's a bit odd that the song will be available for download a month prior to the physical release?
Wouldn't that affect the physical sales? I mean...Her physical sales have been sliding for a while now (while her download sales have skyrocketed) so I don't think this will help with that. Flavor of Life was an exception of course

^^ Not surprised, but a little amazed that she was already named the favorite artist after only releasing one single this year. Flavor of Life is the best digital seller in the world, now that's an amazing feat that'll take a pretty long time to succeed. Songs in the US are a "major success" after only selling 1 million downloads, and no song has surpassed the 2 million mark, so her record is here to stay!
I guess it just goes to prove that you don't have to release new material once every few weeks like certain artists and still maintain selling power.

The first song I've heard and is still one of my all time favorites "First Love." Utada Hikaru is so talented. Her voice and music is soulful. Honestly, I prefer Hikaru's Japanese music over her English music. The only English song I liked from Utada Hikaru is "Simple and Clean." I was disappointed when her bought her American debut with Island Records.

<3 Kim, she has released four original, Japanese albums (First Love, Distance, Deep River, Ultra Blue), and two English albums (Precious, Ultra Blue).

She has also released 18 Japanese singles, and 6 English singles.

QUOTE
Utada Hikaru's 'Flavor of Life' World's Best Selling Single
EMI is celebrating a highly successful campaign for the release of "Flavor of Life" by Japanese superstar Utada Hikaru, which is laying claim to being the world's biggest selling digital single with sales of seven million units across all formats.
Two different mixes of the song have been snapped up in their millions through a variety of digital products, including mobile phone ringtunes, full-track mobile downloads, fixed line downloads, ring videos and ringback tones.
Utada Hikaru's music video 'Flavor of Life'
Although EMI admits there is currently no official industry system for tracking the sales of singles across all digital and physical formats and products, either globally or in Japan, the Recording Industry Association of Japan claims the previous best selling digital single "Dragostea Din Tei" by O-zone, sold four million units, mainly ringtunes.
Meanwhile, the top selling digital song in the U.S. to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan, was "Bad Day" by Daniel Powter, which sold just over two million units in 2006, excluding ringtunes.
Nielsen RingScan states that the best selling ringtune in the U.S. to date is the 2.1 million-selling "Smack That" by Akon.
Hikaru's "Flavor of Life" also holds the record for the most successful single of all time in Japan in terms of units sold across all formats with total sales now in excess of 7.7 million. The previous biggest selling single in Japan was the 1975 release "Oyoge, Taiyaki-Kun" by Masato Shimon, which sold 4.5 million units, according to Oricon, which compiles the Japanese charts.
Hikaru additionally holds the record for the best selling album of all time in Japan with her debut, "First Love," which has sold nearly eight million copies, according to Oricon.
Jean Francois Cecillon, chairman and CEO of EMI Music Intl., said: "Utada Hikaru has once again led the Japanese music market into new areas of growth and success. 'Flavor of Life' has firmly established a new form of hit single —one where consumers can purchase music in whatever ways they choose. In the new music environment we must deliver multiple products for multiple consumers."
EMI's campaign for the single began when the ballad version was released as a ringtune in January to coincide with the launch of popular TV drama series "Hana yori Dango 2": the show aired "Flavor of Life" in its entirety at the end of almost every episode.
Additional digital product types, such as ringvideos, ringback tones and ringtunes of the original version of the song were released in subsequent weeks, helping the single to sell over two million digital units in total by the time the physical single was released on Feb. 28.
EMI then further enhanced the growing success of Hikaru's song with viral promotions, such as the creation of a "blog tag," which enabled consumers to paste the single's video into their personal blogs. In just one month the video was played more than 600,000 times.
Shoji Doyama, president and CEO, EMI Music Japan said: "We will continue to deliver our artists' music in a variety of product types that is as diverse as consumers' needs. There will be more and more cases like Utada Hikaru where hits come from a coordinated approach to physical and digital releases."

I said this at another forum, and I'll say it again here.

Even though it's a mediocre music video, it was actually one of the most serched/downloaded music videos of the year (so far). I also read that after Flavor of Life was released, she became the most searched celebrity of all time in Japan. So yeah, it was a major success xD. I don't even think she knew how successful the song would be...
[[Rain]], yeah, I really like it, too. I was hoping for something different from Kiss&Cry, and that's exactly what I got. I will wait for a higher quality, and longer version to hear it at its best.

cool... i hope she release another english album^_^ even with the whole Exodus thing that's still from Utada Hikaru so I'd still buy it...
Exodus wasn't that bad, there's just some songs that (for me) wasn't really that good and it wasn't that successful coz of the lack of promotion...
I didn't know Flavor of Life was that successful... nice!
I haven't heard of her new song yet... could anyone tell me where I could listen to it?

^^ If you want Beautiful World (Radio rip) or Fly me to the Moon (In Other Words) ~2007 Mix~, you can pm me and I'll give you the links

.
Well, to be honest, I
am a little exceited about her [supposedly] making another English album, simply because I want to see her in the States. Also, the language barrier wouldn't be a problem lol. However, I hope she takes more precautions this time, and writes some requirements for those Island producers to follow. If they play thier cards right and promote her heavily, there's a chance that she'd be a success the second time around.
The perfect slogan to get her some attention would be something about her song being the highest seller of all time. That would generate some buzz
